Hello, I have a rather unique, strange problem and while I did try to resolve in many ways it just won’t
The story is that I have a NexBox A5 (S905x2 2g/16g) that for many years had serve me as a small server, little MySQL,PHP etc
My other TV Box a more powerful X96 Max+ out of the blue developed a network issue (was running Coreelec for many many years happily) that caused other computers to loose network connectivity … probably flooding the network or something , it just can’t get IP from DHCP, or once per 10-20 reboots so I had to revert to NexBox.
Well at first the usual issues with dtb but I did found one I used in the past and the box booted on all its glory… Great I said. LAN Connection
I connected my external USB 3.0 HDD- 3.5 with its own Power Supply - and scanning for movies went extremely smoothly.
And at this all hell broke loose
I tried to copy a file (around 650MB) from my main rig to the Coreelec box…100Mb/s LAN so I was getting around 10Mb/s great disappointment compared to X96 but ….anyway
It was working great till around 45-50% and then kaboom …connection dropped and CE rebooted.
Again 2nd try maybe something went wrong…again the same….copy starts happily and again around 50%…kaboom
So I started searching
What I tried, flashed other version, from the latest all the way to the old 9.2.8, the behavior exactly the same.
Disconnected the HDD, no change the same behavior
Used another 5v/2A power supply
Used Wifi…well here I got a little bit of success… I managed to copy the 650Mb file but trying to copy a bigger one the same behavior around the 700Mb mark maybe less, maybe more.
Monitored temps…the system is cold..just 45 degrees…armbian server was idling around 50.
So I am puzzled .. I think I have tried everything I could and I just can’t get a reasonable explanation on why this is happening.
Small Note , I have tried copying both using Samba and WinSCP.
Any Ideas ???
Power supply?
I’ve experienced similar issues to what you’re describing, and changing the power supply stopped them.
Perhaps if the power supply output drops from 5V to 4.9V or 4.8V, it restarts during periods of high load.
Furthermore, I have a power supply that causes restarts (when transferring large files) on X96 Max+, yet it’s sufficient for Vontar X4 (yes, the same power supply). Perhas 4,8 or 4,9V are enogh for Vontar X4 but not for X96 Max+.
Important distinction - Did CE reboot because the connection dropped or did the connection drop because CE rebooted?
Two devices both with network related issues I might be looking at network equipment to rule out faults there (router/switch/etc).
Nothing concrete without logs.
I have changed the power supply, again with a 5V/2Α do I need 3A ??
Well network works fine , the problem with the other box started out in the blue, zero issues till now
When plugged to switch it will disconnect my computer and it was not a matter of static IP …for example occasionally the connection might work.
Well the connection drops, but Kodi still is alive , don’t know it frozen or something… I will check if needed and then the box reboots
Happy to provide any logs anyone might need. I would like to find a solution.
