Best device for Coreelec in 2025 (and 2026)

I pretty much tell anyone that is interested in DV to get x96 x10 (8GB) if they don’t care about FEL and VS10 engine. I also tell them that almost all developers say you won’t really notice a difference between MEL and FEL.

I’m waiting for the successor to the the S928X though, and I think they’ll announce it this year (not release this year), Rockchip already announced their successor

AMLogic can’t be that far behind and seeing how much of an improvement the S905X5M seems to be from last gen S905X4 S905X5, which is even faster), I have high hopes we’ll hit 280k on that python benchmark. which will give enough performance that no one needs to look at miniPC’s then

What is this wrong information about?

The VS10 engine is supported since months already, on all SoCs on CoreELEC.

sorry @Portisch, you’ve mentioned this to me in past, it’s just everyone talks about only not supported build can do HDR10+ to DV conversion etc. I don’t have such build or a DV set so I just thought the consensus was to pick not supported build if you need that. my bad. would love if someone using a CoreELEC can show it working

Your confusion is probably around VS10 on NG vs NO and hanging around people still using NG.

It’s a standard feature on NO as the screenshot above indicates.

I also mentioned this awhile ago when posting python score for X10Pro.

It’s all good :+1:

Maybe now can edit the matrix for best Box for kodi, that was created. I would move it up the list as well

BTW ran the python score again for X10Pro

Was around 192 000

Now over 200 000 even faster

the author is very open to discussing the rankings. main reason why x96-x10 is a no brainer is because team CoreELEC had the hardware to work on. I never liked X96, they always cheeped out on cooling but the X10 pro seems decent enough. Someone had both the much more expensive Ugoos SK1 and for CoreELEC purpose he noted zero difference. I’d love to add the new score if you have the pastbin url with exact numbers. 200k is impressive, I’m waiting on the new AMLogic SOCs with CoreELEC too. thx

Sure can add,I’ll find the old thread you started and post there maybe

thanks but I spammed to much in that thread and it was closed, you could pm if once you have time and I’ll add thanks

Lol

Yes you did,RE: Dolby VS Engine in CoreELEC NO,I have no reason to petition the author to edit the spreadsheet, Portisch informed author on kodi months ago. Also I own the X96X10 PRO, so have known all along

Here is python score for X96X10 PRO S928X-J Latest Nightly NO 22 Piers 08/24,Default Estuary Skin

We will not return to that “chart” of tests with python. We closed the topic for a reason.

For the Cube 3, there is a new exploit that allows system user access. Will most likely be patched in the next OS update but this allows any Fire OS 7 or Fire OS 8 device to block updates and override the default launcher.

[SYSTEM USER] FireOS7/OS8 All Fire Cubes/Sticks/Televisions/Tablets | XDA Forums

These instructions will grant system user status with 1 copy and paste command over ADB. It will work on any FireOS7 or FireOS8 device

it now seems you don’t need a brand new Fire Cube 2 anymore. if you buy a FireCube 2 second hand now and get roots access before they patch this. you’ll get a good cheap AM6B+ and android tv for 40% of the cost of AM6B+

Did you infact read what it says there, or just draw your conclusion from your wish list?

C/P “This isn’t root, it won’t unlock the bootloader, or allow installing custom ROMs. System user is much more limited, but still very powerful on an Amazon Fire device.”

First time I ever seen that…and its very useful

Okay, so if many people perceive better image quality on TV boxes with Realtek processors, the reason is due to their better algorithms and processing, but not specifically to the processor itself, and this has no impact on CoreElec, which is a system with its own processing?

So regardless of the SoC, whether it’s from one brand or another, more or less powerful, the image quality will be the same in CoreElec?

The only differences in CoreElec will be the speed of movement in the menus and the different codecs and video formats supported?

@Astrotrain , when you say “3D depth settings on CoreELEC -ng” in post #1, do you mean for subtitles only or to the 3D picture as well? If latter, I’m not seeing this setting in Kodi or CE, or during playback & controls/options available.

I wasn’t able to boot this device :frowning: with CE

For many years, I have been running CoreELEC 18 on a Ugoos AM6 Plus. The AM6 Android interface doesn’t work and Ugoos never responded to any service requests which makes me wary of buying their new AM9. Fortunately, CoreELEC has always functioned, almost to perfection but lately it seems to be jettisoning its internet connection after a few minutes use. So, I have decided to buy a new box provided it can run the latest stable version of CoreELEC.

I need a box with at least 2x USB 3.0 ports. All recommendations will be most appreciated, even if the AM9 is still considered to be the best box available.
