Best device for Coreelec in 2025

I have an Apple TV+ for my regular streaming apps.

Seems like Ugoos AM6B+ is the current recommendation for a box specifically for streaming my local media (i.e. 4k bluray remux) stored on my NAS (over wifi). Correct?

Any concerns regarding longer term support for the AM6B+?

At current pace the work from the team will iron out any remain issues with AM6B+ within weeks. Even without anymore development, as it work already 99.9% flawless, I do not see this device being obsolete within many years to come.

Future support is definitely a potential issue but if it plays everything perfectly then what’s the point in updating?! For me it’s a good reason not to install software updates

I got a Magenta Tv One (V2) and I tried to boot coreelec with a usb driver. I tried every dtb files with ā€œs905X4ā€. But it stucked at the boot logo. Do you know how to boot it? Which dtb file will work?

check your RAM ,there are two versions.2G and 4G. Lan speed is 100Mbs/s .you can choose sc2_s905x4_2g.dtb or sc2_s905x4_4g.dtb only.

Hi,
Is the first post in this topic up to date and lists all the TV boxes that can have Dolby Vision on CoreElec? If not, is there a page where we can see the complete list.

If I understand correctly, the S928X devices only support P7 MEL but not FEL like a Shield TV Pro. Is this considered partial support for Dolby Vision Dual Layer? Better than DV P8 or P5?

Is there any difference for playback, rewind and fast forward between s905x4 and s922xj ?

Is there anything the AM6+ (s922x/z) can do, that the s905x4 cannot?
Both should support all DV profiles by now? and they both support audio passthrough?

VC-1 remux on older Blu-rays, some of them can be found converted to AVC/HEVC.

Also better performance on BDMV FEL playback and faster performance on emmc

Shield Pro does not support FEL, not sure where you heard that.

Has someone compared the the s905x4 and s922x eMMC performance? I thought they were pretty similar?

Aren’t there some components of the S904x4 emmc transfer that remain on USB?

Oh you are talking about a full eMMC install vs a hybrid eMMC install. I think that’s mostly negligible. With the Hybrid eMMC install most everything is either running from RAM or the eMMC.

The hybrid eMMC install may just take an extra 10-20sec to boot.

AV1 is essencial a bandwidth saving codec, a nice development for online streaming but that, even there, is far from being the go to codec currently.

I see a big difference in price on AliExpress between the Ugoos M8 Pro and the X96 X10. Both are advertised as having S928X-J. What differences there are between them?
Both can be turned on by IR? None? Just one?
Both can copy CoreELEC on emmc? None? Just one?

Thanks for your answers, if you have them.

Received my sk1 this week and it is indeed snappy, I am finding reasons to use coreelec over kodi in android now due to that.

Ended up going with the Ugoos AM6B plus. Couldn’t pass up this deal! lol

holy smokes, that is insane price, can you share what discount codes you are using and are we able to use them? this is same price as the scam we had a month back but you’ve got it down with discount codes, great work!.

I’ve said the same thing. the X96 X10 has twice the storage and twice the RAM and I’ve seen it as low as $114 (pre tax). strange it’s so much cheaper than an S928X-J
that J probably adds on $20
