Best device for Coreelec in 2025

That’s news for me. I’m using my DV capable devices with CE-no and they work brilliantly (no FEL as extensively explained).

I’m having Ugoos AM8 Pro + LG G4. Used CE-NO 22 and every DV (just DV, P8, P7) is not getting played as DV, with or without dovi.ko.

While using CE-NE 21, no issues.

You have to use the correct dovi.ko for -no. Use the search function. They are not all the same.

Thanks. Tried multiple ones, but no luck, but just now found this one - Homatics Box R 4K Plus - #5462 by hungphutho Seems gotta test it out.

For you only, obviously, as it works perfectly for me

What if it’s not a blind test?

The more I look at this topic, the less clear it is.
I need a box for no more than €150. I don’t mind if it doesn’t have a DV (I have a Samsung QN95C TV).
I don’t need Android at all, just CoreELEC.

Can anyone give me some advice?
Thanks.

Yes this thread is Vast now,was merged from Best Box 2024.

Start with official supported Boxes CoreELEC, its in the wiki
For best support!!

Then look at something with S905X4, or S928X-J
CPU

I know you dont care about Android, however some data from Vendor boot is used
So at least Android 11

Good Luck

Anyone know if Thomson Streaming Plus 270 can boot CE?

Amlogic S905X4-B And Android 12

After much thought on the forum (and in my head) and following your advice, I have ordered the Dune HD Homatics Box R 4K Plus Android TV 11.
Let’s see what my experience is like… Thanks again.

Look for an TOX3 S905X4 I have 2 working great latest CE NO.
Very reasonably priced and also run cool.

Do not get an TOX4

Agreed, TOX3 is good if you don’t need DV.

Would love to see this device mentioned in the first post under a non-DV section.

Question: what is considered to be the best device for Coreelec today for CE-NO? Looking for 1-2 recommendations for 4K devices that seem to be working well with the betas, and are relatively recent and beefy (ie, should have a longer runway than not). AV1 support is important, as well as HDR. DV/FEL isn’t as importantly but a nice to have for future. Price is less of an issue, so don’t need the cheapest box. Appreciate any pointers - I have read this thread, but it’s getting hard to parse the current state of NO on devices, and which are best. It feels like the Homatics box-r-4K-plus might be a possibility, but the chipset seems a bit older and slower? TOX3 seems to have same ‘issue’ as well.
Is there a specific box that the devs focus on more than not for NO?

Well I am more than happy with my 2 Boxes noted above. Tox3 s905x4. No DV.

Best for HDR10+ > DV & and USB playback

Is AM6B+ S922XJ or X4Q Extra S905X4 best suited for converting HDR10+ content to LG C8 only support HDR10/DV. LG will be used for streaming but also play BD from HD. Other TV is 2025 Hisense which supports HDR10+/DV and won’t be used for local source - perhaps X4Q better suited? Understand both can do DV FEL using NG and both can run new CoreELEC (but lose FEL) and both will do tv-led DV?

I don’t know if it’s the very “best” or not, as “best” is subjective, but I’m quite happy with my X96 X10 8Gb. It’s the cheapest coreelec supported S928X-J box I could find.

I wanted a fast box, and S928X is almost double the benchmarks of S922. It does AV1 and DV and is quite snappy, but no certified apps (I don’t care).

The supplied IR remote is quite shitty though, I recommend using a BT remote (needs a dongle because the inbuilt BT doesn’t work with coreelec), or external receiver.
