Big surprise coming soon

I’ll rephrase what I’ve said previously. I strongly disagree with where the work is being done part. I won’t get into specifics. As a community there’s no healing in the current state of affairs.

The AM6+ is not the king of Amlogic devices — it’s simply the only one currently in production that was properly designed for a 4.9 kernel, CE-NG. At the end of the day, it’s largely a money-maker.

The other notable option, the Minix U22X, has been discontinued and is no longer available.

All the vague hype around FEL has created the impression that the AM6+ is the ultimate must-have device. In reality, it’s just one of the few surviving options with proper vendor kernel support.

G12 devices are still supported in CoreELEC 22, but they’re now at the lower end of the spectrum, as newer SoCs have already moved up to the S6 generation.

As the scene moves forward, these older devices naturally receive less and less attention.

I expect that Ugoos focus on AM9 support and the AM6+ will likely reach the end of its production run shortly after.

I own an AM6B+ myself and I agree with you. There are newer and better devices available. Even in terms of architecture, there are now better options, such as the AM9 Pro.

Especially if 3D MVC can be supported like w/S922X & S905X4. Know we 3D fans are a niche. I’m (maybe a little prematurely) optimistic based on what @Portisch shared earlier.

Nice. So what exactly are you doing here then?

If AI is so capable, why not use it to add FEL support for all other SoCs? That would be genuinely useful.

Much of this progress would not have been possible without CoreELEC at all. Comments like yours don’t help improve the atmosphere in the community — they only create more tension.

Forks exist for a reason, but they are often a thorn in the side of the original project. CoreELEC itself started as a fork of LibreELEC, same situation. Same with TK, they give nothing about forks and not supported platforms.

That said, we generally have to ignore or block issues coming from forks because we cannot reliably debug or support code of unknown origin. Merging all the DV-specific work is also not feasible, as Dolby Vision users are still a minority of the overall user base, and the vast majority would gain nothing from it.

I have actually used it to update the dovi.ko on the AM6b+ for a newer 5.x kernel, but I am just doing the work for myself because there is a lot of vitriol around all of this. I don’t know enough nor have the boxes to even try to get FEL working with non DV licensed where there is no dovi.ko, its also not something I am interested in doing personally (i think that is ok for a dev to do what benefits them and helping out the general ecosystem is a good community thing not a requirement).

What is there that is so much faster then the AM6b+? The AM9+ is only 20-25% faster albeit with a smaller die size. There is much slower devices like the pi that are supported…

If you look at the coreelec subreddit it is almost completely about FEL and DV. We are prosumers, this is a very prosumer product. Even the Vevo and OSMC is prosumer. I respectfully disagree that DV is not something that is very much in demand. You yourself are putting out april fools and teasing people — people want it!

I am not saying anything that is not being said across the entire ecosystem of these forks. The only thing controversial I am pushing back against is the exclusion of the AM6b+ in newer builds and saying that I don’t think is incorrect at all.

My only wish is that CoreElec doesn’t leave behind everyone with AM6b+’s on the DV development and we start to work together, taking the step to support it in NO would be massive for that and I think a lot of those people deving forks would flock to support upstream NO.

You’re so interested in making your wish come true that you’re doing the opposite.

CE-NO has supported and been developed for g12a/b and newer SOCs from the beginning. There’s never been any active effort to hobble any SOC, and that’s not going to change. DV FEL in CE-NO is an opportunity to expand hardware choices both in price and capabilities.

AM6+ owners were never barred from CE-NO, the device was always supported.

Looks like the wait might be over. FEL commits just came in.

This is literally the best news I’ve heard in 2026!! Go team!

I wish I had access to Claude pro. I’d love to get the VS10 engine in CE NO.

:exploding_head:

VS10 is available more than a year in CE-NO!

Yeah but no DV mode “always on” lldv/player led for non dv projectors /tvs, right? If not will you consider to add?

Sorry I’ve been living under a rock as work got busy.. I’m updating as soon as I get home tonight. Can I just drop the tar file on a core elec ng version?

No

Clean install only

A post was merged into an existing topic: CoreELEC 22.0-Piers_alpha3 (March 12th, 2026)

Well, it’s not a surprise anymore so discuss the topic in the new thread:
