How to properly roll back a Generic nightly build?

Hi,

I would like to know how to roll back to a previous nightly version. I have a Mi Box 3rd Gen and I’m using the Generic nightly build:

CoreELEC-Amlogic-no.aarch64-22.0-Piers_nightly_-Generic.img.gz

For example:

https://relkai.coreelec.org/Amlogic-no/ce-22/CoreELEC-Amlogic-no.aarch64-22.0-Piers_nightly_20260905-Generic.img.gz

I can’t find the corresponding Generic versions in https://archive.coreelec.org/. There are only files like:

CoreELEC-Amlogic-no.aarch64-22.0-Piers_nightly_.tar

Can I use this .tar file to roll back to a previous nightly, even though my current installation is the Generic version?

And if I do this, will automatic updates work normally afterwards and use the correct Generic nightly versions again?

Thanks for your help, and thanks to the whole CoreELEC team for all the work you’re doing!

And what is wrong with tar file for update? You already have image installed.

Thanks, but what I’m actually asking is what the unnamed (with .tar extension) nightly build is.

On the nightly download page, there are several builds clearly identified by platform, such as Generic, Odroid, Khadas, Radxa, etc. But there is also a nightly build shown simply as:

CoreELEC-Amlogic-no.aarch64-22.0-Piers_nightly_.tar

with no platform name or other indication.

So I’m not asking what a .tar file is or how to use the .tar format. I’m asking which build/platform this particular nightly is for, and what it is intended for, since its name doesn’t identify it as Generic, Odroid, Khadas, Radxa, etc.

So, can I use this .tar nightly to roll back my current Generic installation to an older nightly?

I’m new to CoreELEC and couldn’t find a clear answer to this when searching, so I thought I’d ask here.

Thanks a lot !

Once you have done the initial install with the .img for the correct platform, you can use the .tar for any of them to do the update. Just copy the .tar in the update folder through the SMB share and reboot.

Thanks! That’s the information I was missing. I wasn’t sure whether the .tar could be used with my Generic installation.

Appreciate the clarification!
