Hi,
I have a MX3 remote from aliexpress and most of the buttons dont work at all. Home, back, etc.
I tried to use the keymapper but the button presses dont register, is this a known issue with these remotes? If so any fix available?
Tried a heap of tests with Grok and it came up with this in the end:
The Home and Back buttons only appear on the Consumer Control interface (event3).
They do not appear on the Keyboard interface (event4).
We have successfully:
- Mapped them to F1 / F2 at the kernel level
- Removed the incorrect “tablet” tags
- Confirmed the events exist
But Kodi’s libinput on CoreELEC 22 Piers is simply not accepting keyboard events from this Consumer Control interface on your MX3 clone.
Current situation
- Normal navigation (arrows, OK, etc.) works because those come from the Keyboard/Mouse interfaces.
- Home, Back, and several media keys come only from the Consumer Control interface → ignored by Kodi on this version.
Realistic options now
- Live without Home/Back
Use the rear keyboard’s Esc / Delete keys as a workaround for Back (many people do this). - Try a different remote
Remotes that put Home/Back on the normal Keyboard interface (or pure Bluetooth remotes) work much more reliably on CoreELEC 22. Popular ones that usually work well: G20S Pro, Ugoos UR02, Homatics, or a basic IR remote with proper remote.conf. - Wait for a CoreELEC update
This looks like a libinput / multi-interface HID handling regression or limitation in the current Piers nightlies. It may get fixed later.
Would you like recommendations for a cheap remote that works cleanly with CoreELEC 22, or do you want to try one last experimental workaround (forcing the device through eventlircd)?
