I own two S905x5m devices, a X88 Pro X5M “no name” Box and a Xiaomi Box S 3. Gen. Both have massive issues on bootup. They won’t start most of the time. The CE NO logo appears on the screen and the sand clock is spinning and then nothing happened any further. You can wait until eternity but it won’t show up the Kodi GUI. No reaction to anything, no keyboard, no SSH, nothing. The only thing I can do ist to disconnect the power from the device and try again. Sometime I need more that 10 attempts before the device is running. It’s exactly the same on both S905x5m devices, also they use different dtb images. Once I’ve manged to boot them up, they are working as expected. Seems not to be a Kodi issue, more likely a Linux issue as it happens before Kodi ist starting. Both boxes are not very similar. The X88 has GBit Lan, two USB and one TF connection and a display, the Box S only have Wlan and a single USB. Aside the boot issues both are working pretty similar. Ive tried to change the boot device. Various USB sticks and USB SSD are behaving all the same.
I then installed exactly the same CE image “CoreELEC-Amlogic-no.aarch64-22.0-Piers_beta1-Generic.img” on a S905x4 device (of course with the matching dtb) and this one has no boot issues at all. It seems to be related to the S905x5m chip in combination with CE NO.
Logs are not possible as there are no logs at the time, the issue happened.
By the way, I’m using MySQL as Kodi Database. But I don’t believe this matters as the issue happende before Kodi ist starting. And this also is the same on the S905x4 device that has no issues starting up.
