Word to the wise. If you’re using this device on a Roku TV, you’ll have to set HDMI mode to Standard as for some reason HDR wasn’t being picked up. Doing that and a reset did the job well there. I’m pretty happy for the cost of this box. About 50 bucks and can play anything I throw at it. Don’t care for DV since my TV can’t play it
Just a report here on May 25, 2025. I am still using two of the HK1 Amlogic S905X4 boxes purchased from Amazon.
Decided to update to current nightly NO build.
CoreELEC-Amlogic-no.aarch64-22.0-Piers_nightly_20250521-Generic.img.gz
My steps.
1 - did a backup to USB stick of current running Coreelec.
2 - built a new SD card with Linux and Balena Etcher
3 - booted with new SD card - rebooted manually a couple of times. All looks fine.
4 - restored back up from USB stick
I am seeing a message about updating Android which I am ignoring. Should I update Android?
I have a TCL TV here with Roku OS. I do not use it and have the Ethernet port / WiFi port disabled. I do get HDR fine.
I am stuck in a boot loop here. It boots and saids something about connecting to the DB and migration. It then reboots over and over again.
I have been able to see some new stuff in the Kodi 22 build and do like it better than the Kodi 21 builds.
I did build another image here with the CoreELEC-Amlogic-ne.aarch64-21.2-Omega-Generic.img.
This one is OK and doesn’t reboot.
Backup/restore from kodi 21 to
kodi 22 not recommended…
Ahh…thank you @frodo19 . Yes here only get it to stay up by leaving the USB stick from the backup in place. Kodi 22 / NO seems faster to me than Kodi 21. So will try NO from scratch without restoring Kodi 21.
Is anybody getting this device to work with ce 22 no? Bluetooth works but wifi doesn’t and I only really have wifi as an option…
Have HK1X4 RBOX, yes have tested on CoreELEC NO .
Same results, ethernet/bluetooth working, no wifi, probably is driver related, think my chipset is bcm 433X ???
You could request support/post in the appropriate thread
Or just use latest nightly NE 5.4.210
Is Excellent, all functions ethernet/wifi/bluetooth all working, even VC-1 playback and *AV-1
*Not all playback is perfect, have to use the skip function ,when black screen, other files playback no issues
NE is one iam using
I stick with ng and wifi and bt are working so I’m good, I guess
I’ll hold until they sort out the wifi issue, I guess…
Ok
NG or NE both are fine to use
Keep in mind ,Team CoreELEC is not going to Magically sort out wifi issue.
No log
No problem
Hi, I bought this device a few years back, but lack of support made me end up using a VM. I am in need of Coreelec in a new location so I though I’d use this device.
I have downloaded the latest coreelec ne stable image. Burned it into a SD card, copied the s905x4 4g gigabit dtb file to the root level of the card and renamed it to dtb.img. To boot from the card, I used the method of pressing the reset button in the AV while powering, and got the Coreelec splash screen, after the initial setup Coreelec reboots.
Here is where the problem comes, when Coreelec reboots after the initial setup, the HK1 splash screen appears, then a black screen for a long while, to finally get this error message:
###Starting debugging shell for boot step: mount_storage… type exit to quit ###
*** Error in mount_storage: mount_common: Could not mount LABEL=STORAGE ***
Any idea what the problem is and how to fix it? Or at least how to debug further?
Power cycle the Box/Hard boot
Remove SD card boot to Android, in Android do a factory reset/insert SD card ,long press on power button on remote/use restart function
also maybe update Android version to latest/Vontar slimboxtv runs very good on this Box
Also try Different media card or USB Thumb drive
Do you know if your Box has Gigabit Ethernet?
I would use that DTB S905X4 4g 1g
If I remove the SD card I can boot into Android, but I do not want to run Android, I want to run Coreelec. How is factory resetting Android going to fix Coreelec?
Where can I download the latest Android version for this box? Maybe updating the firmware could help. It is worth a try.
I can try a different SD card or a USB device.
The device is 4G 1Giga network, that is how I bought it at least. I have tested the 4G 100M network just in case, with exact same results.
Factory reset can help with reading/mount SD card.
Boot to Android so you can try to mount the SD Card with CoreELEC on it,Android will give a prompt
Then try the long press power button/ reset
Which is like boot to recovery where CoreELEC loads
This Boxes can be finicky, certain SD cards the HK1 cant read /fails to mount, best not to use anything over 32 gig
Definitely would try Different media card/ USB
Use big G and search for latest firmware for the HK1 / slimboxtv
You were correct, the 32G SD card made it work without an issue. Either that or the 64g SD card was faulty in a weird way.
In any case thanks for the support and the quick answers.
Here is a brand-new driver, and you can upgrade to the latest version.
https://www.realtek.com/Download/ToDownload?type=direct&downloadid=3375
Could the CoreELEC team please upgrade the RTL8156B driver? The kernel is 6.10. If I’m not mistaken, yours is the 6.10 kernel!
CoreElec uses Amlogic provided 5.15 kernel.
driver for 6.10 kernel is not relevant
You can use the coreelec-no version.
CoreElec NO is Amlogic 5.15 Kernel
CoreElec NE is Amlogic 5.4 Kernel
CoreElec NG is Amlogic 4.9 Kernel
So where did you get 6.x Kernel from unless you are referring to LE and that has nothing to do with modern Amlogic SOCs
