Ugoos AM9 - SoC S6 S905X5

I’m currently testing the AM9 Pro with CE beta2, and photo open without any issues. I can also rotate photo clockwise using the arrow key without any problems.

Thanks for your report.
Current status for the high-size picture open action:
Ugoos SK1 - opening
Ugoos AM9 Pro - opening
Ugoos AM9 - Kodi crash

Hi

I have the same as you, a fresh build, opens without issue.

File was saved to sandisk 2tb ssd that is permanently attached to the AM9(accessible via network).

I personally use Photo screen saver and have a pictures partition on my SSD with 32gb of family and holiday photos, a mix of JPG and HEIC, this works well.

Probably irrelevant but sending any way

Thanks for checking but:

  1. there is no Kodi crash when those high-size pictures files (more than ~50 MB) are used in Picture Slideshow Screensaver ver.7.0.3 - I can confirm they are displayed without issues
  2. can you check on your AM9 if you can display that picture using Pictures node?

Hi I looked at your picture using file manager, in a few hours when I am back home I will use Picture node as you asked.

I tested that picture with the pictures node.

I navigated to the file location, the system didn’t have thumbnail, I clicked image to open, the screen went black for about 15sec, Kodi restarted. I used pictures node again, this time the file had a thumbnail, I was able to open without issue.

An addition to this test. I had now just updated to today’s nightly build 2026.09.04. Checked the file again, it already had thumbnail. Opened it gave an initial black screen but then the picture loaded up.

as I am typing this my screen saver has kicked in, the system isn’t happy, your picture is dimmed in the background, my pictures flash up for about 1 sec then full version of your image.

I can repeat your steps and get the same result - the image is displayed.
I ran the “Regenerate Thumbnails” action on a folder containing about 20 large photos (and 350 smaller ones), and then after running the “Recursive Slideshow” action, Kodi doesn’t restart.
It seems Kodi is having trouble caching large photos…
Anyway - the problem is solved - I know what I need to do to prevent Kodi from restarting.
Thanks for your help…

[EDIT] No… restart again but not on the first large phote but one of those 20

Can someone try this dtb on old firmware v2.1.0 (not v2.2.0) ?
Does it work or not?

https://test.coreelec.org/vpeter/s6_s905x5_ugoos_am9.dtb

NO NEED ANYMORE.

I can check as I did not performed firmware update from 2.1.0 to 2.2.0 yet.
Can you define “does it work” ?
What particularly need to be checked?

Hallo vpeter ,

als neu installation oder nur die dtb austauchen?

Hi vpeter,

as a new installation or just swap out the dtb?

Hey mate just saw your message now, I’ll test them in a few hours.

My s905x5 box is still on firmware v2.1.0, With the nightly build 20260908, V1 DTB file has done this to the screen and the system stopped here

Unable to use IR remote to turn off, probably cause the box has frozen.

Externally the V2 file is behaving the same way.

Back to the original DTB.IMG file all is good again.

Thanks for testing.

With next nightly build 20260910 the Android firmware MUST be updated to v. 2.2.0.

Update to nightly to get new dtb, then update android fw. And it is working again.

One option is to only download update (without rebooting), then shutdown device and update android fw. This would be more clean solution.

What consequences might owners of the AM9 face if they don’t visit this forum and do the CE update on top of firmware 2.1.0?
Or is there some safeguard in place for the next update to the CE nightly build that would halt the process before the actual CE update takes place if firmware is not 2.2.0?
Just thinking about other users…

Ugoos AM9 with firmware 2.1.0 and CE Nightly build 20260908
Notification “An update is available, would you like to download it now?” → selected “No”
Rebooted to Ugoos Android
Performed firmware update from 2.1.0 to 2.2.0
Rebooted to CE

result: “half” logo as on @Wildpig954 picture and then after few seconds black screen → my Ugoos AM9 is a brick now.

Sure, you need the new dtb.img for you old nighly!
v1 or v2, Ugoos AM9 - SoC S6 S905X5 - #451 by vpeter

Download it and replace the dtb.img file located in the root directory on your SD card or USB stick.

Only vpeter note the difference.

Thanks for the guide - I’ll certainly use it to try and get my device working again.
The thing is, I followed vpeter’s instructions: before updating to the latest CE nightly build, I updated the firmware to version 2.2.0, and the result was disastrous.
I hope my story saves other AM9 device users from similar problems.
