A few days ago, I received my X96 M200 to use with CoreELEC, and to my surprise, it comes with the S905A SoC instead of the S905X5M. I have been researching and testing several images, but none of them boot because they are designed for the S905X5M and not for the S905A.
I know this device is somewhat unusual, since the bootloader must be unlocked before installing any custom ROM. However, that’s not a concern for me because I was able to unlock it and install SlimBOX ATV.
Now comes my question: Has anyone managed to install a CoreELEC image on this SoC and found the corresponding DTB file?
I’m attaching some photos I took when I disassembled the device to determine exactly which SoC it uses.

The S905A and S905X5M are the same SOC for the most part. Use the s905x5m dtb. Try booting CE (latest nightly) from an SDcard if you haven’t already.
Unfortunately, I had already tried that without success. I tried the 4GB/1GB DTB, which is supposed to match the hardware specifications, but it doesn’t boot.
Should I try a different DTB instead?
As you can see above there were devices which booted fine. Maybe yours is some new revision no one knows about. Ask X96 if they made any significant changes in hw or in sw in last few months.
Maybe I should try all the DTBs for the X5 and see if any of them work.
At first, I thought it was because the bootloader was locked, but I managed to unlock it and install a custom ROM like Slimbox.
As you can see above the s7d_s905x5m_4g_1gbit is corect one.

I have to try the 4G one only, it doesn’t even have 1GB of lan.
With these Chinese you can expect anything
Even with bootloader unlocked, you may have to root the Box with Magick Module.
Also try the 2gig 100mb lan DTB

Bueno, al final conseguí que arrancara con la img estable para el 905x5M (aunque descargo la NO) y con el dtb de 4gb/1gb al final conseguí que arrancara
Lo que me faltaría es tener el vfd para que se ilumine la pantalla pero ya lo encontraré.

Well, in the end I got it to boot with the stable img for the 905x5M (although I downloaded the NO) and with the 4gb/1gb dtb I finally got it to boot
What I would need is to have the vfd so that the screen lights up but I will find it.

La verdad es que este dispositivo es realmente increíble. Dejando a un lado, el tema del arranque bloqueado, es un dispositivo muy rápido y muy bueno.
Una cosa que me sorprendió para bien es que, siendo de la familia del X96 que suelen ser dispositivos que se calientan en exceso, este es todo lo contrario. Tiene una muy buena térmica y la temperatura se mantiene entre 45 y 50° una auténtica maravilla en todo

The truth is that this device is really incredible. Leaving aside the issue of locked boot, it is a very fast and very good device.
One thing that surprised me for good is that, being from the X96 family, which tend to be devices that heat up excessively, this one is quite the opposite. It has a very good thermal and the temperature remains between 45 and 50°, a true wonder in everything.
