Easier, more reliable method now looks to be 2nd method I shared in post #1.
I installed 12th July nightly on eMMC and plugged in a WD My Passport Go 500 GB USB SSD directly to my device that is formatted to exFAT. It won’t get detected and would like some help to debug it. Here is my pastes:
Try with USB hub with external power.
Thank you @vpeter
I do not have USB hub with external power but I do have a Sandisk 64 GB USB stick also formatted to exFAT so I decided to test this and it worked flawlessly.
I was honestly still expecting my USB SSD to work since it is one of those slim 2.5 inch style ones that do not draw much power at all and initally that USB SSD was used to install and run CoreELEC until one day for no reason I know of it magically would no longer be usable to boot from which led me to do eMMC as soon as I was aware of the existence of eMMC install thinking that if it can no longer be used as CoreELEC boot device it can still be used as external storage device.
Thankfully SMB runs flawlessly over WiFi after increasing SMB, NFS and caching chunks to 1MB and setting total cache size to 256 MB but I am still hoping I can get a USB SSD to run reliably on the USB port.
Do we still need to be using the nightlies on this box, or is the beta fine?
