The sound issue is fixed now. I also discovered I can scan an entire drive if I do not attempt to update the library. All I need to do is hold down on OK over the drive concerned for about 3 seconds and then I get the option to set content. Changing from None to Movies and ensuring the option for a single movie in each folder allows it to scan.
The only problem I have left now, and this is one I never mentioned before, is that when a movie begins with the word “The”, if the scanner can’t find the name of the movie, it defaults to “The Angry Birds” which is rather annoying.
I won’t be reinstalling CoreElec again because I already did that and the only addons I used were content providers, subtitle providers, backup, weather, and screensavers. Everything else I added after I was satisfied that most issues had been resolved.
Thanks very much for your time guys. I confirm the problems were not with 9.2.5 but more to do with certain functions not being so simple to understand. For example, the 5.1 no rear sound issue resolved by setting to 2.0 and the library not being able to scan or update.
You need to navigate in the source selector to the Home Folder or the Root folder. Depends on what you want to achieve really. The file system is part of the main Operating System so will not present itself as a type C: block media - it will present itself as a whole Linux file system. It has designated folders such as music, movies, recordings which you can add as sources and then designate as the location to store your media in the media settings tab.
This is the Linux way of doing things and since CE is Linux based you will have to get familiar with it. Personally I prefer to leave the OS storage well alone and to store all my media on external hard drives. Why ? Because NAND/eMMC is not very durable and is liable to wear out if you repeatedly write to it. If you add external media it will simply appear in the file manager.
2021-02-04 00:08:02.303 T:3375219584 WARNING: CRenderManager::WaitForBuffer - timeout waiting for buffer
It is quite annoying to have the best device with the best internet provider and the video is lagging from time to time.
Do you think the issue is really caused by Netflix servers? If so then someone else shall experience these issues as well. Is the there any solution?
I’m satisfied with the N2+, which is quite powerful device. But I’m thinking to buy a Netflix supported device Chromecast with Google TV to have a reliable device without any issue.
Did not say it’s due only to NF servers, but also probably due to the link your ISP has provided to their servers gets congested. It happens often in that the leased bandwidth cannot handle the streams continuously, and InputStreamAdaptive has a very small buffer to handle that, and it’s size can’t be changed.
When this errors happen, if you have a PC/Laptop connected to the same router, then run a speed test to NF servers that your ISP uses; run the test from https://fast.com/.
Another thing to try is when you have these errors, in Netflix Settings -> Expert -> select “Enable VP9 profiles”, which needs lower bandwidth for same video quality on N2.
Thanks Sholander for letting me know about netflix specific bandwidth test fast.com. I was not aware of it.
I did lot of test and measurement of the netflix over kodi and Edge (both on 1080p). When the lagging issue appeared (which I can almost always reproduce in Lucifer S04E04 time 6:30-7:00 ) there was a higher bandwidth demand (based on my router/netdata monitoring). Usually it is about 10 Mbit/s, but during that critical time the average bandwidth was about 13 Mbit/s with peak about 40 Mbit/s. I executed the fast.com during lagging and it gives about 40 Mbit/s (with 8 parallel sessions). So there shall be enough bandwidth.
When I watched the same episode with the Edge (1080p), there was never ever an issue. The bandwidth demand from Edge was little bit higher, but no lagging at all.
So my conclusion is that the used InputStreamAdaptive has worse buffering than used in Edge implementation of Netflix. With that I’m considering to by Chromecast with Google TV with native Netflix app.
I can of course use the suggested VP9. There the requirement bandwidth is much lower, about 2Mbit/s. But I’m afraid of artefacts. With the fiber link I expect the best service.
I really cannot understand what is the cause for your problem… I watched LuciferS04E04 sequences you mentioned several times and had no issue at all on my N2 with 200/100 fiber link. Usually I test with sequences from “Our Planet S01E01” from 4-8min that also have high bitrates.
Unfortunately buffer size on InputStreamAdaptive cannot be changed.
Any Netflix certified device will do better because it will use hardware decoding which uses much less bandwidth for same results. From cheep devices I prefer Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K from any Google device. Although it’s loaded with crap it performs perfectly for Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney+ and HBO_Go, with best WiFi on any such device available in that price range.
Btw, from where are you running CE, from uSD or eMMC? What skin (I use default) and did you try with fresh installation with only NF addon installed?
Hello,
Am I the only one having problems with fast forward?
When I press the “fast forward” key too quickly, everything freezes.
(My movies are stored on a Synology NAS, and Kodi CoreElec is version 9.2.5)
There is a kernel oops in the logs. From where do you open the media file?
Can you try it to copy it to local storage at the device? Can you provide a sample of the media file and are you able to reproduce it with this as well?
