This is my first time posting a problem with testing CoreELEC alpha builds on a new device. I’ll post my findings below. Please let me know if I should be doing so in a different part of the forum, or if I need to provide more/different info. I’d be happy to test and provide feedback on future builds on the GT King II if the devs find that helpful.
Problem:
CoreELEC crashes while sitting idle, with minimal settings changes made after install.
Monitor displays an all green screen on the monitor.

We’re checking it, it seems to work well with audio devices (if you please could confirm this it would be good) but not with other kind of devices. It doesn’t find them.
My understanding is that CoreELEC is a Opensource project, and as such would be keen on sharing info rather then obfuscate. I can understand if there is something holding the info back, but in that case you might wanna be straight with the community and tell the reason why and if posible a timeframe for such a release.
Sorry to sound this blunt, but what you said, just makes me think of an greedy 2 year old that doesn’t want to share.
I’ve never really looked at CoreELEC before, until I heard whispers about VIM4 running CoreELEC, But now I’m rather hopeful of running some AI-stuff on a SoC that also can double as a HTPC. I’d love to put some of old server hardware to the recycling bin, I mean the fans, the power bill, the happy wife factor.
So I come here hoping to take a peek into the code, but reading a “lifespan” of the code only lasting 2 major versions, plus that the “edge code” isn’t in alignment with the rest of the code (IE opensource).
Should I skip the idea of CoreELEC on my soon to be AI-plaything?

You should read more about CoreELEC before making so many assumptions. You could learn how and why CoreELEC was founded…you could understand that the major divide and the reason to fork was the believe from CE founders that users deserved a fully functional media center even if it meant using the closed blobs from Amlogic, the “parent” project pursued mainline kernel even if it meant having a semi functional media center (at least in amlogic devices). You can’t have it all, and yes, the code will be public like 3.14 and 4.9 kernel versions.
You can wait a bit or not, your choice.
Thank you for that clarification. True, I assumed a lot and as I said, a reasonable explanation could go a long way. I’m new on this forum and I haven’t really learned the ropes, what I knew from before coming in here, with great hopes of having the perfect little SoC and a not “Just_Enough”, was that you guys do a mediacenter-oriented os, like LibreElec but better. Not as locked down from what I’ve heard and as you say, multi vendor/platform. Truth be told I didn’t have a clear picture of either platform or vendor.
I stand corrected, that I assumed a lot because of ignorance. But I still stand by my statement, having a thread on the forum called “New Era” and then answer “perhaps later” to anyone asking to see the new code. It’s a bit frustrating when you come here form a google link or a “media nut”-friend talking about the best OS for “your SoC”.
I know that most hardware-vendors like to keep things under lock and key, but when you guys use nice “paradigm change” statements, I do tend to assume there is new paradigms, like “vendor releasing some of its locked code” or “release some API” that you guys now can “abuse”. And write none closed source code against. But if all tis “New Era”-bits are a blob from the vendor, then it is not your place to divulge that information, but then why make a big fuzz about it in the forum? Click bait?

Well, 3.14 was CoreELEC first kernel,.we called 4.9 -ng (new generation) and now 5.4 is -ne (new era). We hope we can get more and more from each kernel we use. And we know it’s not just a media center anymore, with things like docker the opportunities are enormous. But we are a media center above everything and we plan to continue to be the best one.

It is important to understand Team CoreELEC is not just a dedicated team of volunteers including developers, internal testers, coordinators, graphic designers, documenters and maintainers (the Core), but also our supporters, with whom we work closely together, and our user base (everyone who uses CoreELEC) from whom we receive feedback.
One of the rules of agile development is to develop with feedback.
Our users are encouraged to participate early on in testing public alphas and betas, thus contributing by donating their time and reporting back to us. This approach incrementally leads to a mature product with wide compatibility range.
Nothing about CoreELECs Development Cycle (CEDC) is secret, and source is made available via GitHub. Unless expressly stated otherwise all code submitted to the CoreELEC project (in any form) is licensed under GPLv2.

It was never “perhaps”. Whole code will be public when we stabilize last bits of pieces.
It is just a name with 2 letters like ng. Or you can read it as “new era of problems with new linux kernel”.
And yes, we are still using blobs. I think this will not change in near future. Because only this allows to actually use the SoC fully.

CoreELEC is a free open source project and anyone who wants the code will get it. Of course this only applies to the GPL parts of code. We also ship firmware and other non-free parts that we can’t share.
Of course if someone wants the code they can get a tarball of the GPL parts they are interested in as required by law.
The git will be made public once no rebases are required anymore. We did the same with CE19 NG: "Next Generation " btw.
We are working on the code for almost 8 months now and it has been private the whole time. We have made some test builds for the community because they became impatient.
So I guess we should not have published builds yet.

This is not explicity true when the source code for ceemmc, libamcodec and inject_bl301 are not made publically available and only closed source prebuilt binaries are provided.
Now the source code for your 5.4 kernel has also been kept behind lock and key, this is a sad state of affairs to see the direction that the CoreELEC OS is headed in when it does not honour or respect the GPL license that it is released under.
You may want to be more open with the community as to the real reasons behind this.

You are not right, like for these tools the license is not GPL:
Like this ceemmc is done by CE devs so we own the right on the sources and it’s not licensed under GPL. If you do not agree how we handle the development process than please delete all CE related items on your local devices. We do not need to release any item at all. I think we will remove the public test files as well. It’s best for now.
Anyway, this discuss about open source or not goes no-where and just take us off from real working time.
Closed for now until new information will be available.

Yes I agree we will remove the builds until the code is stabilized and everything lands in GitHub. Then builds will be uploaded.

Amlogic-ne is now public available, please search here for last nightly builds. It’s not yet 100% finished but not in bad shape.
Sources are available at GitHub as well…
