Best device for Coreelec in 2025 (and 2026)

For me it is also down to $$. Rocktec G2 $165, Tox3 $74 AU
I can’t see much extra for the money… Might be cheaper where you live.?

It is about the widewine L1 licence for premium streaming apps under ATV.

did you ever get to try with the 8k version?

The Odroid C5 from Hardkernel lists for only $US39. That seems inexpensive. Is the C5 supported by CoreElec? How would it compare with the much more expensive Ugoos AM6B+ ?

  • United Kingdom : We ship over US$190.00 order only.

It’s a no go for anyone from UK, we’ll have to buy from a local distributor.

You just bought the board. In terms of absolute price it’s not cheap, add the EMMC, the case and Power Supply, the USB to EMMC adapter.

You’re paying for the quality components and software support, Chinese manufactures will have this for $40 for the whole package in a couple of months.

their isn’t a universal way to measure but you could run a single core python test, that’s important for kodi since all addons are written in python and mainly single core (not all)

You can compare against the AM6B+,

we already have S905X5M in the Xiaomi TV Box S (ver.3), I expect the score to be higher in CoreELEC, you could test and report back? I’m very curious what that score gets. thanks

I don’t see any difference between that box and HK1 RBox X4/VontarX4 and that box is cheaper even thinking about the amount I paid for an SD card and a keyboard.

You have to get a case, a emmc, an hdmi cable and a power supply with that Odroid device

the S905X5M is faster than the S905X4, coreelec will take advantage of it

For the C5, you’ll need to arrange your own WiFi and BT via external adapters if you require it. Since some adapters are not compatible with CE, you’ll need to do your homework beforehand.

Personally, I prefer a box that has these included.

The C5 is not an android tv box, it´s an sbc
If You buy any android box, in many cases You will go to

Personally, I prefer a box an get my own WiFi and BT via external adapters(if required)

to each his own - we all have different needs, hence this thread being as long as it is.

Thoughts on the Minix U8K Ultra at the right price.

I’ve had a AM6B PLUS since 2021 and want a capable device that does basic DV and AV1. Or wait for a S905x5m that will do H266, not that I have any need for that or AV1 at the moment.

Its pretty beefy so it should work. I wouldn’t worry about H266 support tho. I don’t think we’ll see many files with that codec any time soon

and you won’t have any need for AV1, it’s YouTube stuff anyway, blu-rays will never use it.

A post was merged into an existing topic: CE-NG Dolby Vision (+FEL) for DV-licensed SOCs (s905x2, s922x/z, s905x4)

Hi i search for a cheap S928x Box.
I found the H96 Max M12 on Ali for a good Price.
Is this Box usable with Coreelec?

It should be if it has an unlocked bootloader

Compare the X96X10 PRO S928X-J
Against this Box
Price
Dolby Vision
AV-1 Playback
Wifi6
Etc…

I have the X96X10 PRO it definitely works with CoreELEC!!!

Hoping not too far off topic?.. Delete or move if so.
Sadly a lot of people (prob in the 1000’s) will have boxes that are 9 or 11 and no chance of updating to 13. I tried and only got to 12 (3.12.10) on my TOX3 atm with SlimboxTV… Still looking
Please don’t say go out and buy an expensive box, money is not easy to come by for a lot of members esp us retired ones.
If I am right the U code is called Python version?
If so most on this list would not comply then?

If I am wrong please don’t shoot me :frowning:
