absolutely crazy they are charging that amount for a S905X3
should be ashamed tbh. Odroid fell off he cliff and seems to have literally stopped all development.
I would wait a little while. it’s ben 3 or 4 years and we are seeing the next generation of devices S905X5m and the S905X should be out before year end.
That’s two generation ahead. If you really need hardware right now. I would recommend the TOX3, I recommended the Vontar X4 to someone right now, and I’ve had someone say this about it
TOX3 should be better, but yeah If you can hold off the next generation will trickle down in the next months, we already have it in the mi box
but for some reason they took out usb 3 and only 2GB RAM LMAO
the next ONN is supposed to have the next gen stuff, which should even beat out Nvidia (not surprisingly it’s like 8 year old hardware).
Do no buy the C4, cost much more than an S928X, crazy!
I’m also running a survey to test python single core scores which have an impact on addons, to check how well c4 does against others , you can find it here
thanks, seems to explain how they are pricing this. still for the purpose of running Kodi it’s a terrible proposition. especially as I’ve explained about the upcoming S905X5M and Vasco proved my point, it’s going for $39 for the board, and wipes the floor with C4
I expect a slew of Chinese manufacture have their product out for $50 all in (not just the SBC) very excited, thanks Vasco for bringing that to our attention!
Team CE,
Could you please let us know which device manufacturers have been the most helpful and supportive of your project in the past and in recent times?
When my Beelink GT1 Ultra (s912) died I needed a budget replacement and grabbed an HK1 (s905x4) which was garbage. Stutters, reboots, shutdown issues, etc.
Been using my old PC the last few months, much better but rather large and lots of fans.
Was totally convinced and ready to grab an n100/n97 16gb ddr5 and run it the same as my PC with Win11… But, seemed to be a lot of praise towards the Ugoos AM6B+ running CoreElec.
I guess what I’m wondering is, which to choose. Price wise, both around $230CAD.
How about support? Biggest issue I had with the Beelink was that less than a year after it being recommended to me, it was no longer supported or getting updates. Worked great, and still better than newer hardware but it was 3 versions behind of Kodi.
One of those 50/50 debates… Trying to avoid having something outdated in a year or just absolutely junk like that HK1.
The Ugoos Am6b Plus is an Excellent machine, i have one.!!
Primarily was purchased because of Dolby Vision Profile 7 FEL playback .This main selling feature.
There are limitations if you like to use Android in Dualboot, Android 9 is as high as Ugoos Box will use.
It will run on CoreELEC NG for years to come!!!
If you dont care about Dolby Vision Profile 7 FEL,
I would take a look at the
X96 X10 Pro S928X-J
Both my old Beelink GT1 Ultra, and the HK1 rbox never botted into Android. I bypassed with an SD Card, and it was used 100% for KODI. My TV doesn’t have cable, netflix, apple, etc… it’s just been Kodi connected to a NAS with ethernet Cat6 and done. Very simple setup.
Still have a Beelink in the living room. Mine died, hence the HK1 but it was unusable for stability and issues.
Not sure if I care about the Dolby Vision Profile 7 Fel… it keeps getting mentioned in threads, not sure if I’ve come across it. My TV is being replaced on Wednesday, panel went bad, and although it has HDR, it’s not great at it, so my entire library is x265 SDR and 50/50 8bit vs 10bit. No BT.2020 because well, again this TV wasn’t great with it and the living room wasn’t 4k or HDR capabale. That TV was replaced at xmas so going forward I do plan to start using HDR… so… FEL “might” matter… it’s a good option to have, same as AV1 decoding.
Someone sorta local selling a barely used AM6BPlus for $100CAD (AliExpress is about $235CAD and Amazon $300CAD). Apparently too complicated for him so selling it. Price is good.
Agreed, TOX3 is great if DV isn’t required. It does need some initial setup to get CE working but otherwise works incredibly well after (using the NE kernel).
