Thanks for that In fact I just checked with a file sample from kodi and my S905X3 box do DV here my sample IMG-20241105-181146-8846 hosted at ImgBB — ImgBB but thanks for the tweak passthrough. So I answer myself My Android Tv system Sony AND my box do DV its cool… For people who want to try they will found sample files here https://kodi.wiki/view/Samples#4K_(UltraHD)_Formats
The sample you chose is DV/HDR10+. Your box doesn’t support DV, so it’s falling back to HDR10+.
Well YadaYada My TV is NOT HDR10+ only HDR10 and the sample is HDR10+ and DV. If my box do not play DV I just have blank display (or black) this is whats happens to people who do not have 10+ or DV with their box If I trust their comments
HDR10+ falls back to HDR10 when HDR10+ isn’t supported.
DV decoding requires DV licensing. Your s905x3 is not DV licensed, it will not decode DV in CE or Android.
Wrong forum!
Hi folks,
I own a DuneHD Homatics BoxR 4K+ (black box) and run it fine on CE-NE 21.1.1 through a Denon AVR to an OLED TV. Everything works fine and all formats are supported (HLG, HDR10+, DolbyVision).
For a test run, on a new USB stick, I tried CE-NG to see if FEL is correctly supported. I used CoreELEC-Amlogic-ng.arm-21.1.1-Omega_nightly_20241106-Generic.img
with both sc2_s905x4_sei_smb_280.dtb
and sc2_s905x4_4g_1gbit.dtb
. Ethernet works fine and WiFi/BT seem to work properly as I can see SSIDs and BT devices. However, I can not get DV to even show up in Kodi settings, only the usual HDR to SDR
and SDR to HDR
options.
dmesg shows that dovi.ko
isn’t loading, of course, I used the s905x4
version

Before bothering people here I have an important question : Before using CE-NG, do I need to reboot to Android and let it update everything or is CE really totally independent of AndroidTV?
I ask because I see here a lot of messages about people updating AndroidTV to the latest release.
My DuneHD device was booted out of the box around April 2024, Android updated itself, rebooted and then bootstrapped the normal installation process. When it reached the point where it needed to login with a Google account, I switched off the device and never booted AndroidTV again (except by error by forgetting to plug the USB stick ). I only used CE-NE ever since and I am happy with it.
But now, I can’t get DV to work out of the box on a fresh install of CE-NG and I wonder if that’s the reason.
Thank you for any information.
The dmesg output is normal, the next two lines after what you posted are likely
efuse_mode=0 reg_value = 0x18
dv capability 7
If that is what appears, the DV module loaded successfully.
The Kodi DV related settings depend on the DV module being loaded, and the connected television reporting DV capabilities.
CE is almost entirely independent of Android. In your case I don’t think Android is the problem.
I edited the original message to report dv capability 7
and you’re right about the efuse_mode
line.
Ok so I can’t see where the problem is I shutdown CE-NG and plugged back my original USB stick with CE-NE
CoreELEC (official): 21.1.1-Omega (Amlogic-ne.aarch64)
and everything is back to normal again. Everything is working fine as expected and DV is back too on exactly the same conditions.
I’m a bit puzzled here to say the least
And thank you for the clarification on the relationship between ATV/CE because, for a new comer to the CE world, it wasn’t very clear, at least to me.
For further info, here’s the dmesg
output on CE-NE CoreELEC (official): 21.1.1-Omega (Amlogic-ne.aarch64)

And we can see sc2
instead of null
after amlogic_dolby_vision_init
I see used 2 different dovi.ko modules (different versions).
On my day-to-day CE-NE, I haven’t touched dovi.ko by myself so it’s the default shipped file, probably /android/odm/lib/modules/dovi.ko
as this is the only one I could find on the whole filesystem.
/android/odm/lib/modules/dovi.ko - 1624928 bytes
SHA256 : 5cabac0b63972169266625fef73f040a673ad8cf887286f576788fd6a0c2d7b1
On the CE-NG test run, it’s the S905X4 file from Mega.nz listed on the post here : CE-NG Dolby Vision (+FEL) for DV-licensed SOCs (s905x2, s922x/z, s905x4)
dovi.ko - 1290671 bytes
SHA256 : 50fbf5f721ddb8d567ed3a3759d0a51ec7d02abfd5e9ec24c53db40e1d78d4ef
so yes, they are very different but I guess this is to be expected right?
null
is normal output for that 4.9 module on the s905x4. Yeah, the shipped module included with the box is compiled for kernel 5.4, and the NG version is for 4.9, they are different and the dmesg output won’t be exactly the same.
It looks like the DV module is loading fine. Try reflashing that USB stick with CE-NG to be sure there wasn’t some problem during the initial CE setup that is causing problems.
Already did that I posted my initial message after 2 flash attempts.
-
Flashed the IMG file and did not include dovi.ko at all, did the initial kodi wizard setup and shutdown. I placed dovi.ko on storage and booted up, no joy.
-
Scratched all and did flash the IMG again, this time including dovi.ko on the flash partition.
/usr/lib/coreelec/dovi-loader
script confirms it tries to load it from there and it did. Anyway, I moved the dovi.ko file to/storage
just in case but again, to no avail.
This is a big (and unpleasant) mystery
What’s the output of
cat /sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/edid
Yes, of course. Stupid me.

The raw EDID is the same between CE-NE and CE-NG, but it looks like DV capabilities aren’t being detected in NG.
CE-NG
LTE_340M_Scramble: 0
**HDR/15 DeepColor**
checkvalue: 0xfd170000
CE-NE
LTE_340M_Scramble: 0
**DolbyVision2 HDR/15 DeepColor**
checkvalue: 0xfd170000
So the Kodi DV menu remains hidden. Does DolbyVision appear under ‘/sys/class/amhdmitx/amhdmitx0/edid’ when you connect the box directly to the television under CE-NG?
Sorry for the delay, life happens as usual
Connecting CE-NG directly to the TV makes no difference, still no DV detected. At least, the Denon AVR can’t be blamed
In case you’re wondering, all the HDMI cables are
Ultra High Speed HDMI Certified 3-Pack 48Gbps 8K HDMI Cable 6.6 ft / 2m
and the builtin HDMI tester in the Denon AVR confirmed the 8K certification.
