Does CE21 play Dolby Vision P7 MEL on S905X4 without -K or -J?

I need clarification on CE21 (ne) Dolby Vision MEL capability on S905X4.

All the cheap S905X4 boxes use the S905X4 without -K or -J. The boxes coming with -K or -J cost more.

(1) Does that mean that I won’t be able to play Dolby Vision content with the boxes that do not have a -K or -J chip? So do I need a S905X4-K or -J so that CE can play DV?

(2) The Kinhank G1, the RokTec G2 and the Ugoos X4Q Extra seem to be the only boxes that comes with the “-K” or “-J” version. Are there others?

P5 is greenish, others have a fallback to HDR10.

So it doesn’t make a difference whether the box has a S905X4 or a S905X4-J or a S905X4-K when running CE21 ne, it always falls back to HDR10 (except P5)?

No, on DV capable SoC it plays in DV, not HDR10.

Sorry for being very verbose. Just want to make sure I choose the right device.

So when I play DV content on e.g. a Kinhank G1 with S905X4-J and Ce21 ne, it will play in DV, not in HDR10?

Yes, -K and -J means they’re DV capable

Thanks for all answers.

So I am going to get the Kinhank G1.

DV capable the exact same way devices with a s922xj are DV capable?

No, that’s widely referred in the forum.

I was explicitly referring to P7 MEL. That is inferior to P7 FEL. The S922X-J you mentioned is capable of P7 FEL, but it cannot decode AV1.

Yes, I got it. Initially I missed the Mel part on the title. Usually people want Fel and usually they are not told point blank that the only worthy options are those with the s922xj Soc. So we have endless questions about s928xj or even more unworthy socs.

agreed, I don’t understand how people can value AV1 more than DV P7 FEL? makes no sense for watching Blu-rays.

This is a moot point discussing as the preference for hardware decoding options depends on the media sourcing of a person.

However, what does make sense is being clear about what one’s requirements are and then matching that against the capabilities of available chipsets and boxes.
