Do you plan to update CoreElec to read such files?

This is technically possible with the s922x. If only you could play the DV one day with Kodi. :sunny:

Dolby Vision is a proprietary format. There are no plans to “update” CE to play it, because it’s not that simple.
You can always use your TV’s built-in player to play such files.

Page 16 or read the rest of it if you need more info.

ok, so no plan to update CE because “it’s not that simple” …
With such reasoning why did you make CoreElec? We can all read the files with the tv’s built-in player.

Are you just doing simple things?

DV is a proprietary format, “not that simple” is closer to “impossible” without licensing all the tools required to make this even a very remote possibility.

Yes, that’s all devs do, simple things. They’re to dumb to do really.interesting things. I’m still pissed because my S912 doesn’t make good expressos! Or bad, if that matters.

But I’m trying to get Dolby Vision from my Nespresso machine.

why the problem does not arise in the case of Dolby Atmos?

Because it works differently. Atmos audio is bitstreamed like other audio formats and then the receiver decodes it.
Dolby Vision requires all devices in the media chain to support it and be certified by Dolby.

It’s now possible to have Dolby Vision and lossless audio in ts files. Just yesterday the developer of MakeMKV released a new version that:

“should correctly recognize and preserve Dolby Vision streams in MKV file”

What are the chances of CoreELEC supporting Dolby Vision ts files in the future?

You still lack the hardware support. DV requires J variant of Amlogic SoC (eg. S922X-J), which is only available to makers who paid licensing fee to Dolby Laboratories. Even then it is unknown if it supports dual layer DV used in UHD BD. DV in streaming is single layer only.

I think that was initially the case but some TVs have received firmware updates adding Dolby Vision support. I searched for Dolby Vision software solution and found an article from February 2017:

Dolby Develops Dolby Vision Software Solution for Expanded Device Support

According to a report from Forbes, Dolby has developed a new software implementation of its Dolby Vision HDR format. Previously, the technology could only be implemented on devices with special hardware built in, but now Dolby Vision support can be added via a pure software solution on products with enough power to run it.

The current solutions create single track profile 5 Dolby vision video that is decodable e.g. by nv shield 2019 SoC (The dual track profile 7 streams from UHD disks can only be played back with DV by some TV decoders and Bluray players).

So given that the S922X-J like on ugoos or new Minix have a DV licensed hardware decoder (at least supporting single track streams), what is the stopping point for Kodi on Linux/Coreelec to utilize that decoder for DV video?

What an utterly dickhead thing to say. If its so simple do it yourself.
Show a little gratitude for the hard work done.

Lack of information and knowledge about DV. All DV document is confidential. Sony is so stupid with this. Also no info from Amlogic.

DV does work on s912, but on android. Think mxplayer does support it.
