Any suggestions how I can solve this?

Before anything, update to the latest CoreELEC version, the version you are using right now (9.0.1) is ancient, and not supported.

Thanks for uor answer, I found out the profiles.xml file was trunctetd to 0 bytes because the storage was full with thumbnails. I deleted the thumbnails and the truncted profiles.xml and the system booted again normally.

I tried updating the EM7680, but I do not have any updatechannel available and no Available versions too. Any suggestions how to start an update?

Glad to you were able to sort it out on your own.

9.0.1 is so old, that it’s probably best to go with a clean install of CE 19.
You could do a backup, and then try to update manually, no guarantees about that succeeding (depends a lot of the addons you have installed). To update, download the CE19 tar file and drop it in the Update (storage/.update) folder and then reboot.
