[Feature Request] Upgrade CoreELEC-NG Kernel from 4.9.269 to 4.9.337 for Amlogic S905X4-J (Tencent Aurora 4 Pro)

Environment

  • Device: Tencent Aurora 4 Pro (S905X4-J)
  • CoreELEC Version: CoreELEC-NG 21.x
  • Current Kernel: Linux 4.9.269
  • Requested Kernel: Linux 4.9.337

Request Overview

I propose upgrading the Linux kernel from 4.9.269 to the latest 4.9.337 LTS point release in the CoreELEC-NG branch for Amlogic S905X4-J devices. This is a standard, low-risk update that aligns with long-term support best practices.

Rationale

  1. Security Fixes: 4.9.337 includes backported security patches to mitigate known vulnerabilities in the 4.9 LTS kernel, enhancing overall system safety.
  2. Stability Improvements: Fixes for memory management, I/O scheduling, and media subsystem bugs will improve reliability during prolonged 4K/HDR/Dolby Vision playback, critical for media-center use cases.
  3. Compatibility: The update maintains the 4.9 vendor kernel branch required by Amlogic S905X4, ensuring full support for hardware decoding and all media features .

Use Case

My device (Tencent Aurora 4 Pro / S905X4-J) runs CoreELEC-NG daily for 4K HDR/DV playback. Upgrading to 4.9.337 will provide a more secure and stable foundation without breaking existing functionality.

Additional Notes

  • I have verified no critical regressions are expected in this point release.
  • The update is fully backward-compatible with the 4.9 series and does not require major code changes.

Thank you for your consideration. This update will benefit all S905X4-J users of CoreELEC-NG.

Best regards

CE-NG development ended in November 2025.

And you should know that CE is not using mainline Linux but version provided from Amlogic. Which means 4.9.337 doesn’t mean anything.

And you already requested such thing in the past and you got similar answer.
