No i use the earlier cmd change dialoguebuttonmenu & move suspend-to-idle script in download folder, it works for me as its in the powermenu, did you try the new one in cec? If it works I’ll use that then. Thanks.
I currently have my unit wired up for uart and connected to a DVI monitor so I can’t check CEC. I did check
Settings > System > Power saving > Shutdown function > Suspend
This does put the board in suspend-to-idle.
The final version in the FAQ had a couple advantages.
- it was faster to wake from suspend (~2sec) because it didn’t need to restart Kodi
- because the suspend service was replaced, you don’t need to modify the power menu, it works with any skin.
You can try the modded suspend service, it won’t interfere with the script you previously mapped in the power menu.
Yes all works now with the zip & is faster , thank you so much @YadaYada .
Hi there!
Can anyone here try to watch a HEVC 4:4:4 10Bit RExt 4k Video?
I think the Decoder Engine is broken / does not decode in hw or sw.
- Download this Trailer in IMAX HEVC 4k YUV444: Download 4K trailers for Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (2025) with 5.1 audio
- Try to play it
When attempting to play this HEVC 4:4:4 RExt File, only the audio starts to play and the video shows a never ending loading animation or black screen.
Im using 21.1.1 NG
That range extension (RExt) format might not be recognized.

I’m not familiar with RExt or where it’s used. The video doesn’t play on any Amlogic SOCs I’ve tried, on CE-NG, CE-NO or CE-NE.
It is used for Movie Trailers as well as some Streaming Platforms when using HDR.
The only way i found to play this is by completely disabling amcodec hw decode, which then plays the File (badly with 10fps). But i imagine for 1080p it would run smoothly - this should be something that we can atleast toggle or should fall back to SW decode when the HW Decoder cant support it .
Or is something that the HW Devoder could theoretically support?
I found out Jellyfin implements the reverse workaround → allow a force transcode HEVC RExt on the Server
A couple of the CE guys suggested that 4K YUV444 HW decoding isn’t supported by any of the SOCs. I was able to play a 4K YUV420 RExt sample, so the limitation isn’t RExt.
I was having a hard time finding RExt samples to test. If you have a YUV422 video, see if that plays.
Ill be trying today with a 422
Thank you for checking - i think in that case it would be awesome if it just defaults to sw decoding when such a file is present
This is what 4K HEVC 422 RExt with HW Decode looks like
Log with HW Decode at 14:54: https://paste.coreelec.org/RatherImpose
With SW it works but at 4k it really does not (8fps)
While testing i found another weird Bug completely unrelated to this:
When Playing DV Profile 7 Content (with HDR Fallback) and outputting to a SDR TV the displayed picture is so dark you could think its black (in fact my camera cant capture the little brightness thats left). Is this a known issue?

For all current users of the Cube, any hang ups? I’ve been using the ATV+UGOOS combo for a little but wanted another device for the media room.
Any thing I should be aware of in terms of the AM6B+ vs the Cube? I can get a sealed new one for the root/bootloader but just wanted to check on status. Anyone use both the FireTV side and CE?
Video playback capabilities are identical between Cube and AM6+, that’s SOC-dependent. The other hardware differences make little tangible difference for most, or can be compensated for. A USB hub with gigabit Ethernet (limited to ~300Mbps) will provide extra ports and +3x the bandwidth for any high bit-rate stream.
Check the OP for hardware differences.
The Cube bootloader lock is being bypassed in the process on a Netflix/DRM certified device (DRM remains in tact), so there’s more setup steps.
Follow this guide for the unlock.
And this guide for CE setup.
