Forsajd's Youtube video and devices that do Dolby TrueHD audio passthrough on Kodi

Hello everyone!!!

While looking for a device that does Dolby TrueHD audio passthrough to the AVR on Kodi - and at the same time can record TV channels (DVB-T2/C) - I came across this interesting youtube video from Forsajd (I saw that he is a member here, so if he sees this maybe he can shed some light on this topic). It’s about Zgemma H9. 2S (the Zgemma H9. 2H has a DVB-T2/C tuner):

In the comments of another video I think he talks about a handicap; HDR10 and HLG are not available on Kodi, I’m not sure. The video is from 2019 and devices of this type offer a cut-down version of Kodi. However, it seems that the latest version of openATV has a full-featured Kodi.

These are the other 3 devices I have investigated:

  • Odroid HC4 (here it is possible to install CoreELEC and record TV channels with tvheadend)
  • Odroid N2+ (here it is possible to install CoreELEC and record TV channels with tvheadend)
  • Dreambox ONE (here it is possible to install an unofficial version of CoreELEC but with an old version of Kodi)

Which device do you recommend me where it is possible to run 4K UHD movies properly on Kodi and with all of the above (Dolby TrueHD audio passthrough to the AVR, TV channel recording)?

This is not CoreELEC and CPU is not Amlogic:
CPU: HiSilicon HI3798 1500 MHz Quad-Core-CPU

I would recommend the Odroid N2+ but with Odroid HC4 you have an advantage: 3.5" hard disks but it is not as powerful as the previous one. In both you can use CoreELEC.

I would discard Dreambox because CoreELEC is not an official version and its performance is not as good as I would like.

About Zgemma, it’s a good device if you want to record tv channels. You can’t install CoreELEC but you can use Kodi. I can’t tell you how is the performance with 4K UHD videos in Zgemma H9. I would wait for someone who knows more before deciding on one device or another.

I have tried it all. Have zgemma in bedroom on which I tried kodi. Unfortunately it’s only 720p max due to soc limitations.
Best setup? Am6b plus with external dvb tuners plugged in or like me streaming from zgemma with iptv simple or enigma addon. You can record as well and there’s no need for tvheadend.
