Frame drops followed by a speed up (Ugoos AM6B+)

Hi all,

Not allowed to post in the Ugoos section, so maybe a mod can move it there? At first, I thought I had a bad MVK but it seems there may be another cause. Every now and then the picture freezes or has artefacts and the sound may or may not drop (sometimes the audio keeps going fine). Then suddenly the picture catches up as if you’d fast forward. This happens at least 2-3 times per hour of screen time. Source material is 1080p either H265 or H264 played from an attached USB-hard drive.

I’m on the latest nightly as of time of writing.

Any idea what might be cause this or anything I can provide for troubleshooting like collecting logs?

edit:
For testing, one idea I have is to connect the box directly to the TV. It’s now running through a HDFury Vertex 2. It splits the audio to my soundbar via a dedicated HDMI-output. That could rule out HDMI-handshake issues but I’d obviously lose surround audio.

It also happens when connected directly to the TV. So no luck there.

It also happens with subtitles OFF as I found a deal of posts online hinting that might be the issue. So is upgrade to NO my only option? There is no support for NG anymore?

edit: I found the page about getting a log by SSH-ing into the box. I’ll be adding it tonight or this weekend.

@Portisch I reflashed the UGOOS firmware from scratch and then installed Coreelec lastest nightly from scratch but I still get the issue.

But as a good user I also collected logs. Could you have a look please?
https://paste.coreelec.org/TripletsKeeping (dmesg)
https://paste.coreelec.org/MotleySeams (Kodi).

I do see a bunch of suspicious lines:

4349.577948@3]- [0]Error config_mc_buffer, 0th poc (517) has error
[ 4349.577950@3]- [0]Error config_mc_buffer, 1th poc (515) has error
[ 4349.577952@3]- [0]Error config_mc_buffer, 2th poc (513) has error
[ 4349.577954@3]- [0]Error config_mc_buffer, 3th poc (510) has error
[ 4349.578015@0]- [0]cur lcu idx = 0, (total 510), set error_mark

Try again with CE-NO, old CE-NG kernel is EOL.

Same hiccups. Could be the file I’ll have to try the others that failed.

I may be on to something. I mainly play 1080p H264 or 265. Not sure if that matters. The stutter appears with USB-drive or SMB-share (over WiFi but the coverage is excellent. RSSI is below 55 dBm).

VLC-showed the same stutter over USB on exactly the same time point and likewise over SMB-shares. Until, I played the file locally via the Macbooks internal hard drive. 0 stutter and plays perfectly. Does this help you in any way? It feels like a buffering issue. I’ll try to move the file locally to the Ugoos and see if that helps. It’s not very big.

Maybe it is a AMlogic decoder issue, but too many files are bad encodes. Including the ones I encoded myself. That’s a bit strange as they play well on my ancient WDLIVE.

Think I tried it about all. Followed a guide to adjust various caching parameters to no avail. It just doesn’t like remuxes (judging from past topics). Might be worth investigating because the OS is really good.

Hello, sorry in advance for not being relevant, but I have been facing an issue for the last few months but how am I supposed to create a post?
