Are there any current chipsets capable of playing the future H.266 (VVC) codec? I know it’s probably at least 1 - 2 years before such content becomes available.

I think it’s too early to think about H.266.
In any case if it will be supported then you need new hardware.
I doubt we will see it used. AV1 will be patent free and therefore it will be widely used.
