Homatics Box R 4K Plus

First thing that comes to mind when seeing so many blacklisted apps with the word launcher in their name, is the goal to preserve the original ATV homescreen full of ads… Not that I recognized any of the launcher apps. But when I started using this android tv box, it was my first steps of the short and unfinished journey getting to know ATV OS better. Being used to using custom roms on my android phones and tablets, ATV caused some confusion when trying to customize the UI a little. Maybe I didn’t put enough time and effort into it, but I got the impression that it’s much harder to just make things work more similar to the way you would like them to, in comparison to phone/tablet android. The blacklist of apps just reinforced my view regarding this…

Thank god (the CE team) for an alternate firmware for these boxes, where the user can feel in control much more easily.

To be clear as clarification, that list is for V14 build 2042 (leaked ZIP update), and Nokia’s release of 2137. The one Homatics still shares as update on request, is build 1782, that has no app restrictions.

But the restriction of enable wireless debugging is present in build 1782 …

That is not what it is about.

Hello, I’m on nightly coreelec and android 12 but I have problem - playing 4k HEVC stream either 9GB or 60GB (24p) - I see slight stutter - like few frame drops every 1-5 minutes. When I bring menu (where I see play/stop/ff etc.) this stutter occurs every 2-3 seconds (few frame drops). It does not matter if I play it from internal storage or internet stream. When I test kodi in nvidia shield with the exact same stream - there is no stutter at all (to avoid something else in the path). Any idea what might be wrong ?

Yes, countless ideas, but without any logs none of them matter…

Have a Homatic box coming. Is the consensus to upgrade to ATV14 (assume this is the firmware)? And is nightly CE-NG still needed, or just install stable 21.2?

The 21.2 NG works both under Atv12 and 14.

Not recommend to use any of the shared fw to upgrade.

I guess you haven’t got @vpeter fix to move data to eMMC under Android 14? I do have one Homatics box but still Android 11, does Android 14 update make any difference? Thanks

AFAIK, there is no way to move CE data to eMMC if your box is on ATV 14, but I am no expert, so I could be wrong.

I went back to ATV 12 build 7954. ATV 12 has the benefit of having AFR for streaming apps, which ATV 11 does not have.

ATV 14 did not play nice with Kodi and the (legal!) addons I use for streaming things from Disney+ or Max for example. Somebody on the Homatics Telegram channel told me I should have done a factory reset while on ATV 14 and that would have solved the Kodi issues, but I’m gonna hold off on that until there is a more recent ATV 14 build.

ok thanks, I got hold of an Dune Homatics box for cheap, I already have an Ugoos AM6B+ and one “normal” Homatics box at my parents with Android 11 and CoreElec running off sd card with data moved to eMMC, but does ATV 12 work with data to eMMC? how to get latest ATV 12 build and how to install it? thanks

Yes CE data on eMMC still works wit ATV 12. You can find the update ZIP here:

To install it, temporarily remove your CE SD card, put the ZIP on a USB and flash it from the Dune’s recovery menu.

does this one work for both Homatics and Dune version? does it wipe the internal storage? thanks

Hi.
I purchased the Dune HD Homatics Box R 4K Plus.
The Dune APP (contrary to what the product’s official website says) does not support MENU on DVD.

I’m going to install CoreELEC, could someone help me?
I wanted to keep the original system and CoreELEC, like a dualboot.

I don’t know. I got the link from a thread on Reddit that talked specifically about the Dune.

Going a bit off-topic here, but DVD menus work for me. Did you try the latest beta app (version 13-250101_0003)? The change log says that DVD menu support was added in version 13-250101_0000.

@MauriceW67
The DVD menu, as if it were on a normal DVD disc player?

The Dune APP is not on the Play Store.
The product manual came with a QR Code that opens a link to a website to download the APK, which you need to install manually.

The version I downloaded is this one (there is only this one): dune.1.0.1-13-240123_0207

Dune HD - Media Center App (dune-hd.com)

To install Dune HD Media Center app, use any file manager app to install the following APK file:

For all models except BOXY: dune.apk

You can use the update section in DMC app… Maybe switch to beta …

Yes, normal menu like on a DVD player.

As @FoLeY said you can update from inside the app by switching to the beta channel. Or grab them from here:

It worked! Updating through the Dune APP enabling beta updates.

On the website: Dune HD - Media Center App
talks about firmware update.
Is it the same update as Android TV?
