I’ve been trying to use MKVtoolnix to create samples from STDL DV MKV files.
However, mediainfo on my samples do not match the original, specifically no more Dolby Vision tags.
What is the best method to create a sample that still preserves the DV?
Assuming you’re using the latest version of MKV Toolnix (but I am pretty sure it works with older versions too - I prefer v. 49, since it’s significantly faster on my setup), you simply place your source video in the Input tab, then go to the Output tab/Splitting and choose Split by parts based on timestamps, like in the screenshot below. For me this preserves DV as in the source. No other steps needed.
