Installing a USB -> LAN Gigabit ethernet dongle

Hi
Can anyone tell me how to install such a dongle in coreelec?
I bought a cheap dongle like that, connected it to the box’s USB 3.0 and it doesn’t work.
I don’t know if it is related but I’m on CE 19.

Thanks

CE needs drivers for that

For a start run this command and post url.

lsusb -vv | paste

I just tried two different USB to Ethernet dongles, and both were autodetected and worked.
One is a cheap Sitecom only 100M device and the second a Ugreen 1,000M device.

Minix device running latest nightly CE19.

Mine is faulty as it wasn’t detected in Windows either. New one is coming (supposedly tested) and I’ll test it tomorrow. From what you are saying it should work plug and play.

I bought the cheapest one on Amazon and it worked like a charm. It was a realtek chipset.

Ok, the new device came today but it is still not detected when plugged into the USB.

@vpeter
I tried running this command:
lsusb -vv

The result:

I don’t see any USB device except Toshiba USB disk. No sign of ethernet adapter. Which one is it exactly?

This is the one:

RTL-8153B chipset

When I first plugged it to my windows 10 laptop it was detected in the network cards, then I wanted to try it on my coreelec box but to no avail. Then I wanted to connect it to my laptop once again and now I get a constant: USB device not recognized message. Is it a faulty piece once again?

Please unplug this adapter, reboot device, plug adapter and type this command. And post only url you get not the content itself.

dmesg | paste

I have this device, and it works fine in CE and on my PC.

Ok, I got mad and opened both devices. It turned out the first one got a loose VCC wire so I soldered it and the adapter worked instantly. My TV box now can use the max of my Internet bandwidth: on the box LAN I got 90mbits, now it’s 337
The second device has a slightly different PCB and it can’t be recognized.
All in all I’m happy.
Thank you all for help.
