Yes P7 FEL was the idea, like the AM6B+
I felt exactly the same : too big of a burden to sort out. It’s a shame Kinhank is changing specs without transparency.
The victory of the day was that I managed to convince him to get the AM6B+ after he saw how troublesome his choice was and how easy the AM6B+ experience is. Just need to give him a cloned SD card and done (update settings to reflect this TV’s capabilities obviously).
For me, on my Kinhank G1 it was as easy to get -ng nightly running and updating with CPM-T8 to get full Dolby Vision FEL along with other DV goodies, as it was with my AM6B+. No problem whatsoever with any of them.
But changing G1 with AM6B+ is certainly a much better option

if that deal site is correct, the G1 for a short time was $57.19 delivered to your door. That’s crazy cheap for what it offers! I’m sure we’ll get it for around $60 soon with another sale.
I don’t know if it’s end of stock, but they have been reducing so heavily that it makes me think so, but how can it be end of stock if they released it this year and you don’t send out an update to fix HDR if you going to discontinue the box and provide support like giving out password for bootloader. so no It’s not end of line I don’t think.
So far the things they have done leads me to believe they will keep their promise, we don’t need a G2, we just need a fix and update to windows 12, apparently I heard they already mentioned it would get it I think.
I love a bargain and I just got excited that we can have such a cheap box to get more people using Kodi, but again what matters to me is less headache and CoreElec support, that alone is worth an extra $25.
I would love to see it compared to say Homatics Box R 4k Plus on a youtube video so I can tell if it’s worth buying. being a gamble that it will have the ethernet is a concern.
Things will be more clear in a month if they have actually fixed fixed adaptive hdr and allow us to install coreelec, if they don’t do it in a month then I rather not deal with their promises on other things. can’t be that hard to fix their mess.
Maybe it’s impossible to fix the ones that received locked update. They state that if you update, it’s irreversible; so possibly they have an e-fuse which once blown cannot be put back on.
I presume that they are just cleaning the stock to replace them with ones that will ship with new, locked, Firmware.
But at this moment it’s a very good bargain for an Android box for anyone not interested in installing CoreElec on it.
the way I read it is that you can’t rollback. but nothing in that statement makes me think it’s a permanent mode. it just means their is no method currently to rollback. In a future update they can fix the software and the features will come back. If they went to the bother of having an e fuse then why not lock the system down in the first place? seems drastic.
yeah for Android it’s a nice box, it’s flying of the shelves and the getting brand recognition. They have not once said they are not going to fix it, repeatedly said they are going to fix it and it will work again but time frame is not given.
If they don’t do this and release a new box, whose going to buy their new box? I’ll never buy anything from them if they don’t fix this now. Imagine buying something from them with features you want and overnight they do an update and turn of those features. you’ll always have that and majority of their customer base right now will not buy from them again.
Expected solution: Get the atv11 or atv12 update of the same hardware, from another company, with an unlocked bootloader, then install the update from recovery
yeah as someone mentioned, this is just the start. After the FEL discovery, the word will get out that these chinese boxes can do things that boxes 3 times the cost (currently) can. we should see more cheap boxes coming

I checked SlimBOX website to see if they have any version for G1 and nada. I believe they are not so keen on these cheep boxes; they have versions for most “brand” names.

I think the vendors of the 1.3 million boxes that got the VO1d malware would agree with you so. Any market share bump caused by CE is probably just a rounding error now and un-certified AOSP boxes like those available on Aliexpress and Amazon that work so nice with CE might end up becoming pariahs in the industry.

Which dtb and -ng build did you use? I tried with the latest CE21 ng build and updated it using CPM-T8 but FEL still doesn’t work (tested with woman at 80s mkv file)
I dont own a DV tv anymore. NG plays FEL afaik but not NE. Or is that the other way around 
I firget.
I use NG as it now has 1Gb in nightly DTB.
Unfortunately, I think the reason for the Kinhank locking the bootloader is that the CE NG system now supports 1 gigabit Ethernet!
I was messaging them before, are there any system updates? The answer is always: No.
I asked them before, will it get ATV 12 update? The answer is: No.
Suddenly everything changed!

I used “sc2_s905x4_kinhank_g1.dtb” and have 1Gb ethernet and working WiFi on mine G1.
Also used “dovi.ko.s905x4 => 1.290.671” (not the larger one “dovi.ko.s922x => 1.292.544”)
With CPM-T8 all DV is working, including FEL.
