Looking for Tips on How to Make CoreELEC Work Best for My Home Theatre System

Hello Everyone :hugs:,

Since I’m new to the CoreELEC ecosystem, I’m eager to configure a home theatre system that optimises usability and performance. After doing some research, I’ve decided that CoreELEC is a great option for my needs because of its versatility and lightweight design.

My primary media player right now is a Raspberry Pi 4, and I want to optimise it for fluid playback. I mostly use my NAS to access local media and streaming services like Netflix and YouTube. I would particularly like your advice in the following areas:

Performance Tuning: When it comes to 4K content in particular, what configurations or adjustments have you discovered to really enhance playback performance? Do you have any recommendations for certain CoreELEC settings configurations?

Modules & Add-ons: Which accessories do you think are necessary to improve the CoreELEC experience? Anything that can assist with library management or enhancing streaming quality piques my curiosity in particular.

Troubleshooting Frequently Asked Questions: What typical hazards should I watch out for when configuring CoreELEC? In order to avoid hassles later on, I want to make sure I do things correctly from the beginning.

As I become more accustomed to CoreELEC, I intend to contribute to this amazing community and look forward to your advice.

Thanks in advance for your time.

There are no such tweaks need, just start CE, finish the wizard, add sources and play. Depending on the Amlogic hardware used it will give support up to 8k@60Hz include Dolby Vision.

Performance Tuning is just not necessary

Modules & Add-ons: Try everything that interests you, note down what you REALLY need, and then start with a fresh installation afterwards, installing only what you really use. Everyone has their own preferences.

Some suggestions:
If you want to have a good Netflix experience, get a device that supports ATV and Coreelec, for example the “HOMATICS Box R 4K Plus”, which gives you the best of both worlds: certified Android (which you definitely WANT for Netflix) and the possibility of starting Coreelec from a USB stick. (USB SSD recommend for best performance example “JetFlash 920 USB3.1” or similar)

I would recommend focussing your local NAS Media needs into Coreelec, and Netflix and Youtube into the ATV side. In Coreelec you can choose “reboot into NAND” to get into ATV, and on the ATV side, you can get an APK that lets you reboot back into Coreelec, everything with the comfort of a remote control!
