Network port is flashing

Hello , i have installed CoreElec nightly for C5, thank you for that.

Noticed that the LED on Ethernet is flashing every second or so, even if the device is not being actively used. Is that a feature of CoreElec or could the device itself be at “fault”? There is not other software installed, just CoreElec-NO on a eMMC.

nada39, not very nice to insult this forum on other one!

If someone will have to say anything then you will get your answer.

peter, i am not insulting, just stating the fact. if i am not able to post properly, please correct me.

Your post is here. What else you want?

Why you went to LE forum if you don’t even run LE? Not to mention there is no LE image for this device.

My advice: ignore led flashing or try to identify the cause.

My advice for LAN led flashing

a) put your equipment in a cabinet, also results in a nice clean setup

b) use a black marker

c) use tape

d) unsolder it, if you’re capable

I don’t think there is anything in the software to stop a traffic indicator led

maybe you misunderstood me,

why would it flash every second or so generating traffic if it is not being used,

it just came online, doing nothing since booting up, but apparently it is working or snooping nonstop, otherwise why would the LED flashing all the time.
if it is just being “flashy” then so be it, but i thought it might be worth investigating. certainly i dont like data spies sitting around being active without being asked to do so. her in Europe better tech like good old incandescent lamp were being made illegal to be produced somehow for being “hot to the touch” yet we should accept fancy LED being invasive everywhere.

I don’t know the why’s but my router and ethernet connections flash all the time unless I physically disconnect them.

Maybe some other device in your network send a broadcast heartbeat. :man_shrugging:t2:
Use wireshark and analyse your LAN?

I have similar if I use an wifi usb stick. My fix

Led dims or Light Dims. I use them a lot of leds around our place. Dark and not so dark. Can be doubled up.

the Odroid C5 running CoreElec.NO 22-alpha has LED flashing only on the right side (yellow-orange) but there seem to be another LED with green color, but it is not active.

the Odroid N2+ running an earlier CoreElec maybe Kodi Omega has LED flashing on the right side (yellow-orange) in similar fashion as C5, even when not used, and in adddition the left side LED on Ethernetport is green and always lit-ON when powered+connected.

I°d be glad to send data in real-time, to debug, but is there such a thing as a wireshark-extension for Kodi?

If you don’t know what to do ignore LED flashing.

Nobody here is going to debug your network traffic for you, you need to do it for yourself.

Otherwise, as vpeter said, just ignore it.

  • Solid green → Link is established (you’re connected to a network)
  • Blinking green → Data is being transmitted/received (normal activity)
  • Often indicates 1 Gbps (Gigabit) connection on many devices

  • Usually indicates link speed
    • Off → 10 Mbps
    • Amber/Orange on → 100 Mbps
    • Green (instead of amber) → 1 Gbps (depends on device)
  • On some devices, amber may also blink for activity instead of green

:light_bulb: Common Combo Meaning

  • Green blinking + orange solid → Connected at 100 Mbps with traffic
  • Green blinking alone → Active connection (often Gigabit)
  • Only orange on → Connected but possibly lower speed or idle
