Odroid HC4 gets stuck in coreelec bootscreen when updated > 21.0

I have the exact same issue as described here: CoreELEC 21.1-Omega Amlogic-ng Discussion - #73 by bdyb

There was no solution in that thread, only the suggestion to create an UART log, but i have no cable (ok, i could get one), but then: how do i use it to create a log?

I’ve tested booting from a freshly flashed SDcard with CoreElec 21.2, and this works. However, to boot from an SSD connected to the SATA interface of the HC4, i used to be able to create images of the boot and storage partitions and then restoring them to the SSD (like here) and boot from the SSD. However, this no longer works since CoreElec versions above 21.0…

I’ve checked boot.ini and it points to the correct disks/partitions on the SSD. Any suggestions what to do next?
