Yep, I was aware openVFD supported oled’s with the SSD1306/SH1106 chipset however after trying every conf file on every oled I own on both I2C ports of my N2 nothing worked 
Turns out it was easier to just write my own SSD1306/SH1106 driver 
That way I get much more control over what gets displayed and can use custom fonts / gfx. For instance the video shows a basic 5x7 dot matrix font but here’s a custom 7 segment font:-
