Odroid N2 test builds

Actually I’m not too familiar with uart, especially on odroid. I thought I could just grab any of the cables that we use for connecting to our microcontroller boards. Apparently this is not the case and I have to add an actual UART chip between the N2 and the USB end on my pc?

Yes, you have to. Get an USB-serial module like this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32634246159.html
Put the jumper on the 3.3V side.

Sad to report I tried test.coreelec.org/ray/CoreELEC-Amlogic-ng.arm-9.0-devel-1559136451.tar and latest nightly, 20190530 , harmony remote emulating MCE still has intermittent issue while updating large library.

I’m afraid I’m now having big DVB problems (USB DVB dongles) after weeks of perfection.

Dongles seem to fail an hour or two after booting and nothing records. Problem caused either by last night or the night before’s update (Can’t tell which, I suspect the night before’s update).

2 x XBox One tuner, 1 x 292e tuner.

I realise I have to update every reboot but it’s so frustrating after weeks of perfect running.

EDIT - Just had 2.4G remote fail on me after another reboot. Definitely USB-related update causing the problems here.

Unfortunately the link doesn’t work for me. I’m afraid I probably can’t wait for the USB-serial module to arrive, because if this is a hardware issue with my N2 then I’d have to get it replaced.

For that I’d like to know how fast the N2 wakes up from suspend for you guys and whether you use eMMC or microSD to see if this might be the reason. It seems like @Ray’s wakes up instantly (1s?).

On my N2, when my TV is on and I wake it up through wol, then I get a ping response almost immediately, but ssh access and kodi show up after 3-5s. Maybe this is also normal and I’m just over analyzing this?

My dmesg log shows the following events before the wakeup is complete:

[ 7531.616569@2] vpu_resume
[ 7531.617026@2] amvecm: resume module

What is the output of your PM: resume of devices complete line @Ray?

Nightlies? What version you running right now?

@cdu13a tested this use case and we can not reproduce. Anything more specific how to reproduce?

I tried to get the remote to act up and slowdown under heavy load as some people have reported. Scaned then updated a 20000+ track music library. Nfs over Ethernet to the server. Even tried while playing software decoded video in background and didn’t experience any issues.

Yes nightlies

nightly_20190530 (9.0)

EDIT - Looks like Kodi is crashing as well. When I switch to HDMI on TV (N2) after a couple of hours I just get black screen, no Kodi. N2 still has heartbeat but nothing on screen.

Will test this and see which has better reception, built in or flirc! (Note : its not the xbox controller but the xbox media remote)

It would be good if you could return to older nightlies to narrow it down which one broke for you. Maybe it’s also some setting.
The new nightly from today should be with the new kernel and uboot which could also fix some issues.

Where are they? I can only see the one from the day before.

[Edit] Found them here: http://coreelec.pokey.de/

Will do, thanks for your help. Definitely not any settings changes.

Currently running the new nightly (20190531) and no issues so far. If it crashes I’ll go back and check the 29th nightly.

I do know that for my N2,
28th = ok,
29th - not sure, need to test
30th = big problems.

Regarding the issue with SW decoding and occasional skips: does SW decoding use a different scaling method compared to HW decoding on the N2? If a video is HW decoded, there is no option to choose a scaler in the playback menu. I was just thinking if it was wise to set something like Lanczos3 (optimized) as the default for all videos and then in case of skips in some Hi10p videos, go down to Bicubic for example for that particular one.

I just discovered this issue so doesn’t know when it started : Kodi is unable to play the next song (in a playlist or not).
Kodi 18.2 on my linux laptop doesn’t have this issue.

IR Remote issue.
Remote: harmony using ‘Media Center PC’ or HK remote that came with N2
SMB share off NAS box
Seems worse on newest nightly 20190531. Start scan of music library, remote won’t function. Stop scan using keyboard, remote still won’t function for a few minutes

I have tried a fresh install a couple of versions ago, off EMMC and SD. At that time results were the same. Let me know what else I can do to help.

I just watched live TV and had the stream frozen and the sound in and 300ms endless loop. My girlfriend was too fast pulling the power cord. I will provide a dmesg if I can still ssh.

Does it happen often for you?

Happened only once until now. Out of the blue no channel switch …just the stream. I will keep my eyes open.
