Odroid N2 wifi connection issue RTL8812UA

Recently purchased a couple of Odroid N2 CoreElec edition boards from Ameridroid, along with the recommended USB WiFi module (WiFi Module 5 802.11a/b/g/n/ac Dual Band, a RTL8812UA). While detected fine by CoreElec (latest 9.2.2 stable), attempting to connect to my local Wifi (or guest Wifi) fails with no error. Occasionally the SSIDs disappear from the list afterwards.

config etc: http://ix.io/2lkH
dmesg snippet:

[ 10.065571@0] usb 1-1.2: New USB device found, idVendor=0bda, idProduct=8812
[ 17.158964@5] usbcore: registered new interface driver 8812au
[ 18.052628@0] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
[ 18.053389@0] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): wlan0: link becomes ready

I searched but didn’t find any similar issues that didn’t involve different hardware or older versions of CE

TIA

The Odroid WiFi module 5 is obsolete and was superseded by the 5a.

Are you trying to connect to a 5ghz network?

the 5a isn’t even shown on the recommended accessories list, so I was unaware of it. If I should return/exchange for the 5a then I’ll yell at Ameridroid and do that

my home WiFi uses the same SSID for 2.4GHz and 5GHz so I’d assume given the range and capability it was trying to connect to 5GHz.

The 5a has been available since the BE was released over a year ago.

Try ch36 on the 5g band, some higher frequencies have compatibility issues.

this is for a customer and they are using Google WiFI, so no channel control. I’ll just return/exchange
