Optical Audio - TV or Box

I have a Yamaha YAS-101, which has an optical in, but no HDMI.

I have the HK1 s905x4 box, with HDMI plugged into the TV.

Currently, I have the TV optical out going to the Soundbar. I have no game consoles, cable, satelite, etc… Just the TV, Soundbar and the HK1 box.

So, hopefully someone can help me on this… is it better to go TV>Soundbar? or better to go direct from HK1>Soundbar? for the optical audio.

Also… what settings are affected in KODI?

Thanks

With optical it’s better to go directly - HK1 → Soundbar. If you then have no audio output from optical connector, then you are left only with your first option: HK1 → HDMI cable → TV → TV optical → Soundbar.

Do I need to change any audio settings in KODI?

Yes enable
Allow pass-through spdif multi channel pcm

In settings

Closest I found was

ALSA: AML-AUGESOUND,S/PDIF

Nothing says passthrough, only multi-channel is HDMI Multi Ch PCM

EDIT - Noticed when enabled, the bottom of the previous window has AUDIO PASS THROUGH and options for compatibility.
