I’m running a somewhat old, but stable CoreELEC (official) 20.5-Nexus_nightly_20240316 Amlogic-ne.aarch64 on Amlogic Meson SC2 (S905X4/C2) Dune/Homatics R 4K Plus hardware.
When starting file playback (either from beginning of file, of from pause), just about all titles show a bit of stutter. By default, I have subtitles on for most of the stuff I watch, if it makes a difference. The stutter goes away by jumping a bit forward/back, but having to do this all the time is a bit of a pain.
Is this a known issue that has been fixed in later releases, or a matter of some playback setting that I’ve misconfigured?
That’s the next thing I will probably have to try, but I am asking this just in case someone knows — because ultimately my hobby is watching movies, not being a CoreELEC developer/debugger.
Also, if it’s a configuration issue, going to a newer version will most likely not help.
This isn’t a commercial product Sometimes you have to put in the effort.
Rather than update your current CE USB stick, flash a second USB stick with the currently nightly to check if the same stuttering is present. If it’s not then consider updating, otherwise stick to CE-NE 20.5 if that’s the version you want.
I always play mkv videos with external srt subtitles. They are mostly 1080p contents. I have configured Kodi in 2160p. All modes in the whitelist are unchecked.
The stutter is almost always present, like skipping frames, even during very soft movements. I would say that while playing 2160p videos, there are not or, at least, much less noticeable.
Thanks, but Kodi 22 Piers is only in Alpha 1 state. It is still too immature to use it in a normal day. That’s why I use 21.2.
I can try it, of course, to check if this stutter issue is not present, but I’m not sure if the rest of Kodi functionalities will work properly enough to keep it.
