Singleboot eMMC installed CE21-ne to CE22-no?

As the suggested method for a major version upgrade is to start from scratch, is it ok to upgrade to CE22 using a .tar file and then just reset CE to factory defaults? Or is there some better method for doing it?

I only done this the other way around (clear storagepart before major upgrade). But since your order in fact does the same, it should work (although addons might complain after the upgrade with active addons before clearing).

From NG (or NE) to NO is impossible to update using “tar” method.
After the restart, the interface will indicate that it cannot be updated this way and will abort the process.
I know because I tried the “NG to NO” method.

Ah, sry. Different kernels will not play well. Didn’t catch that. In this case install clean.

But is installing to eMMC from USB stick possible if the eMMC already contains a CE installation and Android is wiped?

Use CoreELEC tool ceemmc-x
Use option to make a copy of internal
Then option remove CoreELEC from internal

Then reflash Android firmware

Now clean install 22 on external media

Use CoreELEC tool again
Option to write to internal as single boot.

Then copy over your addons/usr/data from saved copy you made.

Reboot
Should see message addons are migrating…

This is method i would use.

Does not mean there is no other way
