Support for RTL8188EUS wifi driver

Hello,

I am trying to set up CE on Tanix W2 (Amlogic S905W2) but the wifi connection with the integrated wifi card is just terrible (<1Mbps speeds, very short range).

I additionally have a stockpile of Tp-Link TL-WN722N (Realtek RTL8188EUS chipset) USB wifi cards which would be a perfect solution (extra benefit - external antenna that has good range as tested on other Linux distros and Windows).

Unfortunately, it seems that this wifi card chipset is not currently supported by CE (after seeing “Unsupported device” from dmesg and checking the source code for any mentions of “RTL8188EUS”).

I did discover drivers for this device (rtl8188eus/rtl8188eu/rtl8188etv) elsewhere: GitHub - aircrack-ng/rtl8188eus: RealTek RTL8188eus WiFi driver with monitor mode & frame injection support

However, I am not sure how to install them on CE or to add them to the source code to compile myself.

Could somebody help me out?

Maybe it’s already supported.by Amlogic-no?

Thank you for the suggestion!

Unfortunately, I was not able to test this since I am not able to get CoreELEC-Amlogic-no.aarch64-22.0-Piers_nightly_20250120-Generic image to boot.

At first, I thought that this was due to having Amlogic-ne flashed to internal eMMC storage, but it doesn’t seem to be the case as I reflashed stock Android and I still couldn’t get it to boot.

I am stuck at Bootloop first seeing the manufacturer’s (Tanix) logo, then a completely broken image (for a few seconds), then a reboot, then the cycle repeats (using the same Flash drive that works for Amlogic-ne, tried all the USB ports)…

Edit: also I am using S905W2 (4GB) dtb.

Then it is issues with USB Thumb Drive
If you are on Windows Machine

Format drive default settings fat 32 in windows
Then use another app like SD Card Format
Then format again in windows fat 32 default

Or better yet try micro SD Card
If you have a card
And if this Tanix Box has SD Card port

It should be supported by CE-NO.
But I know there is currently a issue with S4, S905Y4, S905W2 to boot.
It will be solved one day…
