Washed Out Colour on 10Bit 4k Chroma 420?

Apologies if this duplicates other posts here. I’ve tried searching around on this subject in the forums and the issues around bit depth and autoswitching, but they all seem to discuss Chroma 4:4:4 content.

I’m on 8.95.6 on S905 (odroid c2) and when I try to play content encoded at 4:2:0 10bit at 4k with BT2020, it looks really desaturated and washed out. Is this because there is a problem 4:2:0 Chroma in the autoswitching?

I’m using a 2 year old Samsung Series 7 4k TV if that is relevant to my problem?

I suspect this is a known bug, but I’m having a hard time verifying that?

Thanks for all the information.
Unfortunately the S905 SoCs aren’t capable of outputting HDR signals.
Therefore it isn’t a bug, but the expected behavior.

You need a device with one of the following SoCs:

  • S905X (recommended, but only 100Mbit/s network)
  • S905D (the same as S905X, but with 1Gbit/s network / much more expensive)
  • S912 (not recommended, because of bad kernel support)

Hey thanks! That clears it up…I got confused with the S905’s ability to handle 10bit with not being able to handle HDR.
