What makes ISO menu support so difficult?

This isn’t a criticism of any development efforts, I’m asking to learn.

I’ve used CE, DuneHD, and Zidoo devices and a common theme is “not quite right” ISO menu support.
All of them can “play” the ISO file main track without issue, so it isn’t a format problem.

Why is this so? What makes it difficult to implement? It’s not as though The spec is changing. The cheapest bargain bin disc player seems to handle it just fine but it seems like something about getting JRE behaving as expected is an ongoing problem which proves difficult for multiple independent development teams

Install JRE Zulu addon and you will get them. But navigation is then little tricky.

It’s because it’s not legal to make ISO rip of protected content and therefore it’s all just reversed by some people as there does no real support exist.

I can author menus for my own media, nevermind ripping anything, and it just produces it to spec.

Then in my cheap Blu-ray player I can get a functional menu but in these more advanced devices it’s not 100% reliable.

Some menu dont start and yeah the keymap need some work and fast forward/back don’t work.
My wishlist:icon in gui to open bd menu with option to keymap open bdmenu (video menu dont work for me)
Up/down should handle chapter skip , not open bd menu. Fast forward/back should work as any other video. That about it

very valid question. i also don’t understand why we can’t get decent support on devices with much better hardware and software.

Because it costs time? Every hour for this free project means one hour less free time at home. Think about that.

I think you should use one commercial product and cry on their support.

You see it was me who actually added support for Blu-ray Disc Java menus years and years back. No one else really cared for this feature. Some disk works and some not and this is because of upstream support. The missing navigation thing should probably be easy to adjust but why should I do it when reading all the negativity.

then thank you for your effort. i can’t always know who does what.

Such attitude to demand everything working perfect and NOW is the dead of open source. There is actually 0-1 person what take care of this issue but thousands just spam: get it working now!

Nobody is doing anymore anything, just pushing people spending free time…

I installed jre, blurays work, but I’ve tried many keys and they only control the kodi interface and I can’t get to the menu. probably simple but I couldn’t find anything definite online.
