Xiaomi 4K DV TV Stick - AYFR0

I have an old unused Xiaomi 4K TV Stick with Dolby Vision - codename: MiTV-AYFR0 - MDZ-27-AA and noticed that there are CoreELEC DTB:s for S905Y4 2Gb but not for this model exactly.

With some special adapters I was able to connect ethernet and usb at the same time and tried the general dtb as well as some other models but unfortunately none of them booted from usb when I tried the “Reboot To CoreELEC” app.

However, I found a way to root the device and I now have Magisk installed - I was thinking that I might be able to make a dual-boot ? But the first thing I tried was to copy the DTB from the device and try the “Reboot To CoreELEC” app again.

This time it actually boots :slight_smile: but there is no picture, and after normal bootup time it ends with reboot.

Is it worth investigating some more or just a waste of time ? (as in “support will never happen”)

I don´t belive You will get support.

But You can use the stick with Android + Kodi.

Yes, thats what I used it for earlier but it was a bit slow and now I have better choices.

But seeing how much faster things work in CoreELEC I was thinking that these older models could become useful again if you just use the right OS.

But its old now and maybe not worth the effort.

I´m using an old amazon firestick with sideloaded KODI.

Not perfect, but OK to watch some videos in my guest room

I have some models and seeing as some of them can be “hacked” to use CoreELEC I went through the different codenames and found that all of mine were “gen 1” devices and none of them could be used for CoreELEC :frowning:

I managed to extract and open the dtb from Xiaomi for edit, as well as a CoreELEC dtb for the same amlogic processor.

They look basicly the same but there are some differences in (for example) graphics.

Could a litte copy/paste and then pack the dtb up again and try to boot from USB work ?

Not like that. You need to compare the decompiled dtb differences and build it properly with CE process.

Thanks, Im using something called dt-tools from Github to unpack and repack and I went through it and took notes of all the CE differences from the general dts for S905y4 2Gb and compared with the dts I extracted from my Xiaomi TV Stick.

I made an attempt to repack an edited dts with dt-tools but I got:

[*] Recompiling DTS -> DTB...
[-] Failed to compile: raw.dts

Im just interested in learning more about how Android/CE works and it would be fun to get something working :wink: (and its not the end of the world if I accidentally wipe/brick my TV-Stick)

Edit: Im assuming that to do it properly I should have a CoreELEC environment setup and compile from source.

Edit2: And if anyone is interested these are the two dts files I have extracted from the Xiaomi TV Stick (if this is not allowed, let me know and I will remove them)
