19.0-Matrix Discussion

Sorry, didn’t see this after I posted a follow up. It is solved for local files, as you said. Trying to figure out netflix addon now

Hello, now I experienced an odd thing, it worked great on first boot. CE19_nightly_20210318
log: http://ix.io/2Tjh
ce-debug: http://ix.io/2Tji
dmesg: http://ix.io/2Tjj
But after reboot it’s same old thing
log: http:// ix.io/2Tjn

From log all refresh rates are selected correctly.
I couldn’t help with netflix as I don’t use it. But the same part should work correctly.

I managed to download the LG HDR10 jazz video from youtube and I’m having the same problems as yourself - so you are not alone :grinning:
I tried changing to mkv and increase the buffer margin to 16, but both did nothing to help. The symptom is that the picture just cuts out randomly (screen goes black) and then comes back again. I downloaded the 1080p and 4k files from YT. Both files give problems but at different times during playback.
The 1080p is H264 and the 4k is VP9. Let me do some digging this evening.

I’ve never seen this before. I have hundreds of videos and all playback great. Could be an encoding issue??

The buffer settings are for h265 not vp9. although you can look in sysfs for vp9.

It always play great for me. Here’s video playback on CE9.2.5.

Here’s on CE19

How do you get keycodes for NON-IR remotes like G10 air mouse with dongle?
Bought a new box and a G10 remote for Matrix, and can’t find a solution. :frowning:

Just did some more testing.

  1. On 9.2.5, the 4k VP9 plays back flawlessly, the 1080p H264 has the same problems as 19.0
  2. On 9.2.7, the 4k VP9 plays back flawlessly, the 1080p H264 has the same problems as 19.0

Weird. However, during playback, the amlogic info on screen (‘o’ from keyboard) shows that the videos are SDR and not HDR for all CE versions. I downloaded these videos from YT, maybe that info is stripped or something when uploading or downloading to/from YT?? Infact, using “mediainfo” tool on windows does not show any HDR metadata. Also, the H264 file’s metadata looks unusual to me.

The files I have playback a lot better than the one you uploaded onto Google drive. There are glitches, but nothing like what you are seeing. As I said, the 4k VP9 plays back perfectly on 9.2.5 and 9.2.7 Leia.

EDIT: Just saw your last post. I’ll download it and test that 1.1gb version.

I’m inclined to think the way these files are encoded is the cause of the problem. Even turning hardware decoding off and playing back using software decoding does not help in CE.

I have a local collection of 2,000 videos on my HDD and all of them were encoded using Handbrake, StaxRip or Ripbot264. These free programs use the open source x264 and x265 codecs and I have never had any issues with any of them.

.

Thanks, but as it turns out the VP9 4k file plays back fine on 9.2.5 and 9.2.7 Leia, but not perfectly on Matrix.

Downloaded it and played it back on Matrix - playback is perfect and it does show that it is HDR. (Ignore what I posted about those 2 YT files - they are not worth bothering with). I am playing back via USB drive. AFAIK, I have nothing special in my settings etc with CE. Do you have all resolutions selected on your whitelist inside Kodi??

This is weird.

UPDATE:
I see this in your log which is not present in my log:-

Could this be the cause of your picture distortion?? I am guessing it is, but I don’t know what causes it. Are you playing this file over a network??

I have got my sample video in /storage/videos on SDcard in both systems (CE9.2.5 and CE19).
I do not use whitelisted resolution in CE 9.2.5 and it’s working.
I whitelisted all resolutions in CE19, nothing happened.
CE19 is clean install nothing special in setting.
Thank you for your help.

Do yo have any videos that play normally on CE19?

I tried removing whitelist on CE9.2.7 and CE19 and it still plays back normally at the correct resolution and frame rate (3840x2160p @ 59.94fps).

I’m stumped on this. I know you said it works on CE 9.2.5, but what is the speed of your SD card?? Clutching at straws… the video does have a very high bitrate so it’s possible the SD card might not be quick enough.

Do you have any other SD cards you could install CE19 on?

I successfully played these videos on CE19:

https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwxFVkl63-lEbVptTVZ2NENURHM/view?usp=sharing
Both in /storage/videos
I bought new SDcard for testing purposes, it’s SanDisk Extreme 64 GB and there is CE19 (CE 9.2.5 is on same card, only 32 GB).

At least that’s some good news! The jazz 4k file plays back at 60Mbps - that is a very high bitrate. Most of my videos are encoded at less than 3Mbps. Your cards should be the same but the only way to know for sure is to install CE19 on the card that currently has CE9.2.5 installed. If you get the same problem, then it can’t be the card.

Have you tried this previously? If not, it’s worth a go. The cards should perform the same, but it’s possible that may be the cause.

Has wireguard support been deliberately removed? I just upgraded to version 19 and now I can’t load the wireguard module anymore (“not found”). In 9.2.7 it was still working fine (but of course that was an older kernel).

How can I make my remote connect through usb receiver to control volume in kodi? I’ve a soundbar connect to my tv via arc. I can control the volume on my soundbar via tv remote and cec, and this small usb remote did this before. Is there any setting I’m missing?

Edit: all of the sudden it got linked again and working as intended.

I know what you mean, but CE9.2.5 is working great and I don’t want to lose it, because my family wouldn’t be happy. Anyway I successfully played this on CE19.

It’s high bitrate too, mkv, h265, 10 bits, 558 MB in 1:46 minutes, but it’s not HDR.
42 Mbits if I am counting right
EDIT: I can do clean install 9.2.5 on 64 GB card and if it work, then it’s not card related.

Yes - I agree. If 9.2.5 installed on the 64gb card works correctly then it can’t be the card. If that’s the case I would ask one of the developers who owns an Odroid N2 (I don’t have that box) to try playing back that same 1.1gb file using CE19 and see if they can reproduce it.

However, those messages in the log you had of “timeout” strongly suggest some kind of bottleneck.

You could also try copying the file from your SD card to a USB drive or external hard drive and try playing it from there.

As I didn’t had any reply on this SERIOUS PROBLEM I decided to start over again:
Format SD, clean install matrix stable with rufus, put the SD in the box, boot from it, matrix first time run, unable to continue due the missed remote in the installation, remove SD and boot from emmc (9.2.7), reinsert SD to mount it, create the missed files in the SD to work with mecool original remote, boot again from SD (matrix) to complete setup, turn on ssh access and define lots of stuff that are disabled by default, install “driver.dvb.dvb-latest” because the installation doesn’t include the original anymore, install addons, define tvh from scratch, and so on.
Everything working again but an error in a personal addon because “requests” was not installed. I couldn’t find it in any repository, so I got a copy from a local backup of the previous STORAGE directory, rebooted the box from kodi menu, and them CABUM AGAIN… “the system has detect corruption” or something like that, “you have 120s to hit a key before the box explode” or something like that. As the remote only work after booting I had to turn the power off.
Now, how can I get logs from a situation like this?
I’d appreciate some kind of reply on this as it makes no sense to reinstall again.
Thanks and regards

Ok, here are results. CE 9.2.5, clean install on 64 GB SDcard. File in /storage/videos. Reboot after install.
