Would I be correct in saying the S905X4 has no advantages over the 922X especially in regards to performance? Hence why purchase an S905X4 at a premium price over an 922X which, as stated above, is going to be supported for 2 years more.
The A331D2 on the other hand has a performance, and other, improvements over the 922X. So why would one at this stage go down the S905X4 path instead of either sticking with a 922X for a couple of years or just bite the bullet and get a A331D2?
That’s kind of my thinking. I’ll likely keep my N2 boards for the time being as they still more than meet my needs.
Until the kernel/chip support reaches EOL, thereby forcing my hand, -or- until AML produces something genuinely compelling that’s matched with a trusted SBC provider, (looking at you Odroid), I see no meaningful reason to upgrade.
I have been scraping my media for about 2 days now, and this version locks up my HK1 X4 every couple of hours. I have to power cycle the device when it locks up.
Most of my media that it is scraping are recorded TV shows. I have about 270 different series and thousands of episodes.
On VIM4 (with Amlogic -ne build of course) the RAM usage increase over time to a 4GB for 4-5 Hours (the device has 8GB). Maybe has some Memory Leak somewhere and when all 8GB has been reached, the system will crash?
Amlogic, I believe that the expensive flagship S922x CPU deserves to be added support for the 5.4 kernel.
Maybe if a new device with official DolbyVision support appears I will upgrade but until then I wait.
But I understand the development must go on so good luck with the new-era chips support.
And where - do you think - will this support come from, if and when AMLogic decides to drop its support for the S922 SoC? Nexus isn’t even beta yet, so you have at least three years of support still to come.
