I have some .h265 encoded files that play fine, but rw or fw results in a frozen image (audio continues).
I assume it’s due to ffmpeg bump(s), but I haven’t been able to investigate. Happens to one or two files while others encoded in a single batch have no issues with rw/fw. Bit strange…
I have the same problem. I’ve excluded everything except CE. I hope the CE developers fix this bug. I don’t have any other issues, but when I come across a file with this bug, to watch it with the rewind function working, I have to open the settings, disable hardware acceleration, then open the file, rewind halfway to remember the position, then close the file, open the settings and enable hardware acceleration, then open the file and rewind to the beginning, but not to 00:00:00, otherwise it will freeze again during rewinding… And then I can watch it xD
I feel like I’ve been seeing a similar problem. I use the youtube plugin for kodi.
For quite a while now, when I play a video again after previously watching it, so it tries to resume, it won’t be able to start at the previous time. It tries to play and you see the timeline, but immediately closes.
It’s like it tries to jump to the time but calculates it incorrectly to after the end of the video, so then it stops. I can choose to “play from beginning” and then enter a time and OK to jump to the spot however.
Another thing I’ve seen is the video freezing while the audio continues. Seems to happen much more with 4k AV1 videos. But all using the youtube plugin. And jumping seems to happen way slower than it should be with my 500Mbit connection. Much slower than jumping on a PC in youtube, anyway.
Basically there seems to be lots of problems with jumping.
i created a bug report just because of that, see Display resets · Issue #1419 · anxdpanic/plugin.video.youtube · GitHub
i have a 10gbit ftth symmetrical connection, using ethernet, i get about 8gbit/up and down (depending on the chosen server) with speedtest on that htpc, but the youtube addon has serious problems with caching. not sure when this started…
I also have a problem with the seek function in new CE22 NO on my S905X4 (HK1 RBOX).
left/right seek, which should move by the small configured step, often skips by different amounts instead of the set value, additionally, forward seeking often glitches where the timeline moves forward but then jumps back and cannot pass a certain point,
up/down seek, which should make larger jumps such as 10 minutes, often jumps to random times or chapter positions instead; sometimes pressing up even jumps directly to the end of file, i have to use left/right many times to achieved 10min jump,
seeking stops working properly, after any seek, the buffering icon appears, then audio resumes after a while but the screen stays black or frozen, even though the same files worked fine on CoreELEC 21 NE which i used before and this is especially noticeable because my kids use it to skip the intro in their anime (h264 fullhd).
Next nightly might have fixed the seek issue.
At least I can not reproduce any issue anymore on this sample. Not on Dune S905X4 or on AM9, all works like before. I have seen the “freeze” of the circle with 100% on screen but now with a new clean build all works.
Maybe there was a Kodi bug solved by rebase done every new nightly.
I also use Youtube addon and also have the same problem. I thought it was an addon bug. But it seems that no, since on Android, for example, with the continuation of playback in the Youtube addon, everything is fine.
But this is still another problem, not related to the fact that rewinding does not work well on some files.
I didn’t notice any problems with AV1 on my S905X4-J. I have a 200 Mbit connection and rewinding is almost instantaneous on 4K Youtube video. But in general, the addon works through the YouTube API, this is fundamentally different from its work in the browser or official clients or unofficial clients using emulation. So it’s quite normal if it turns out to be slower. For the same reason, he has problems with the history; it is shown with a delay and without maintaining order. This was written about in the addon support thread on the Kodi forum, but the problem here is not in CE.
Where chapters exist skip chapter OR perform big step.
Skipping to End of file would perform a Chapter skip to the Last chapter, or virtual chapter placed at the end of the file.
I rely on the second to skip to next file in playlist.
Change your keymap to use BigStepForward/BigStepBack if you only want it to jump by 10m.
The other issues indicate Kodi’s inability to seek within a file, it would be pertinent to mention how your files are being accessed. Media server/upnp/smb/nfs/etc.
Have you changed the skip delay setting in Settings/Player/Videos? When I reduced this value, the behavior was exactly like yours. Both on CE and on Android. I reset it to the default 750, and the problem was solved. Although the setting description states that it only applies to multiple clicks, it actually affects single clicks as well.
Regarding the Skip steps setup. I only left the -10s and +10s skip steps enabled. There are no sudden jumps with them. Rewinding to any desired point takes an acceptable amount of time, even on very long videos.
p. s. I noticed another minor bug. “CPU frequency” is always “0 MHz“ in Player Procces Info, on any video. In CE-NE it was displayed correctly. Dune pv4k, S905X4-J. Not that it’s a big problem, but still…
I use default skip and delay settings (750 ms). The issue occurs only with some files and mainly at the beginning of playback, which I noticed because i often skip the intro. Strange is, seeking later in the same file works fine. I know that many problems can be related with file, but the latest version seems to have more issues with seeking than CE21. I also notice that some files dont start at all with hardware decoding — after a while audio begins to play but the screen stays black, and only software decoding works properly.
Yes, I’ve seen a lot of display resets too, the TV goes black and comes back after a second. I thought it might be a cable issue but now I think about it, I don’t think it ever happens except in kodi youtube plugin.
Can confirm that I am seeing a lot of display resets and quite a few system resets after a screen freeze. Sufficiently bad that I have rolled back from 12042026.
After some time, i have once again decide to try latest ce22 nightly (13.04) on my sm1 (905x2) device. I have just install it on spare sd card and for now this problems still exist from the first nightly that i try long time ago:
CEC
if i disable all 3 wake-up options in cec adapter settings thay still reactivate by itself to on
KODI INTERFACE RESOLUTION
if i set kodi resolution to 2160p, and reboot, first reboot kodi stay in 4k, but after some time this setting gets reset to default 1080p. In the same time when i did set 4k, i also enable disable gpu scaling, and aldo resolution gets reset to 1080p gui setting stay actice.
For now this is it, as time gose by ill report any new problems as i get to them.
One another thing that i also want to report is, that when i first started my new install when system performing format for the rest of sd card to STORAGE partition i DONT see that information on the screen, screen in all BLACK as it was turn OFF
