Amlogic S928X

Don’t assume anything, if and when support is added the devices will start to popup in this or other thread. Development has ups and downs, we can be days or weeks or months away from support.
CE can take advantage from all the RAM in the device but that doesn’t mean that it needs even half of it

There aren’t any that will run CE

Small update from S5, S928X:
It’s almost done and a lot of items are working already:

Tested video formats:
AV1 up to 8k, 60fps
VP9 up to 8k, 30fps
EDIT: H265 uo to 8k, 30fps tested

Both are working fine on smooth playback.

All other common samples do play fine.

DV FEL support:
does not look like, same as SC2 S905X4, need to convert to like P8.1

There some open items what need to be solved before we are able to merge the support into CE nightlies…

If no Fel support, we might not get another device with it. Long live the AM6

It looks like the S922X-J will remain the king of CPUs. It almost feels as if Amlogic took out the second HEVC decoder to make space for AV1, but that is pure speculation.

Can you determine if it can output true or fake TV led DoVi?

I think the FEL support depends on the dovi.ko module, as the SoC could do it. Can’t these newer SoCs be brought to life under 4.9 kernel?

It’s been confirmed many times that this is not the reason.

Lovely work, hope its good to go soon!

Probably not
4.9 is using Android 9 kernel

Newer chips using Android 11 kernel

We are all most Fortunate that team CoreELEC maintains not 1 but 2 kernels for Dolby Vision Support. !!!
And new mainline 5.15 .119

Hats off to Team CoreELEC for all they do!!!

There is no way to donate
So if you want to support

Click on some adds!!!

Happy Testing

It’s gone for a Kodi CE interface at 120Hz and/or true 4K ? :grin::pray:

Hi all

Been watching the progression of other boxes getting some more DV support but it looks like the best way is still getting the U22x-J MAX or Ugoss AM6 as it looks like other boxes will not support the true full fat DV

is this still the case as i might buy a 2nd box AM6+ box as it looks like the new boxes will not x28 chipset support them?

thanks

Hi @Meridius where did you buy your minix u22-xj max?

I think that depends on your display

How will we know when it’s good to go? I have a Ugoos AM8 Pro and 4K DV display if you need any testers :face_with_peeking_eye:

That was a bug in amlogic DV handling and was corrected by cpm on this forum. All CE versions (ng/ne/no) should be real TV-led now, I don’t think S928X will be different.

I’m not certain but I remember cpm explaining that the logic in the NE version (kernel 5.4) of amdolby_vision always uses priority graphics. That portion of the code was a bit different from NG, and so I don’t think TV-led was ever fixed on kernel 5.4 devices?

a shop in the uk but dont think they have any left

no one is really letting me know if it’s best to buy another of these boxes or wait and see if the x28 chipsets will support the same features or do you all think any new boxes coming out will support these new formats? would it be best to buy a backup of the ugoos am6 just in case these are going out just like the minix

thanks

Nobody can predict the future…
AM6b+ is the best box that you can buy right now, for me personally, i bought 2.
If and when a new box surpassed it, it’ll just sell the AM6b+ or give it away.

I need two in my house and I’ll buy a backup unit.
At the moment they can play back anything, at top quality (personally don’t care for DSD, 3D and BDMV folders). Not much more one could ask.
