Best device for Coreelec in 2024

They have the same processor, if one has characteristics that the other doesn’t have, such has wifi 6, obviously they are not the same device just like the Nvidia Shield 2019 is not the same device as the Nvidia Shield 2017 or the same device Nvidia Shield 2015 even though they also have the same processor.

The S922X-J has been the device that most of us have been dreaming for years. It’s the only device that can actually replace a disc based player. Since Amlogic has decided to stop supporting FEL decoding, there will never be a device as good as the S922X-J for a long time if ever.

On the other hand, several users have reported issues with Dolby Vision and Hisense players.

There’s also a problem for some users with LG TVs and am6b+, there’s occasional hdmi signal loss. So far it’s not clear if it’s an issue with certain units or with the model itself…

someone from kodi forums told me about this here
https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=376035&pid=3209293#pid3209293

pameijer: The price of the Goos seems high. On the Ugoos website itself I just ordered an AM6B Plus for EUR147 including taxes and transport. And delivered safe and sound from the original producer.

MediaPi: that’s much cheaper than aliexpress,
I just checked the ugoos site and they do not sell themselves but have resellers
do you have a link?

pameijer: I bought it **********
Use code UGOOS10 to get €10 off.

I was not aware this isn’t the official site or the bad reviews. I’ve deleted the link to the site since it’s not official. Thanks for make me aware of this

Thanks liquidion for the heads up. I should have done more research

I say it again here: I do not have any HDMI issue between my LG G3 and the AMB6+, even playing lossless Atmos and FEL remixes.

I’m not saying it’s with all LGs, just that it was reported by different users, so not very isolated issue. But again, might be also related to specific content, OS version, CE/kodi settings, AVR combo and so on, but it’s there.

I have noticed this on my C2 unsure what caused it but was trying out if Atmos audio track was working and when swapping between different audio tracks on remux had either lip sync issues or eventually I had a HDMI loss…so had to reboot the box.

Frankly its up to you I just give my 5cents I don’t see very well the point to upgrade to this devices for now. Someone say about the WiFi but what for exactly ?? To stream 4k 8k in wifi ? hahaha let me laught very loud… mine is plugged via RJ45 and yes it can… some other device do not support brand new codecs (android 9 do not…) and the price is crazy when few news SoC will come like 905x5 which will support new codecs like x266 (or h266) where this box can not and will be obsolete very soon… If I have to say something its lets go you can spend your money but in my opinion wait and see 2025 will be something big about that all

you talk like the codecs h266/x266 or whatever are something that is useful soon or in a few years to come, like the AV1 fanatics, hevc will still be the main blu-ray codec for a long time to come, the AM6B does everything that matters for us that only cares of blu-ray remux playback, plus you get DV FEL playback.

Do you use the option " Delay after change of refresh rate"? If you do, which delay do you use? Since my HDMI signal loss is mostly after watching 1080p 50Hz broadcast material, and don’t remember if it ever happened with UHD material, I think that the TV does not switch in time from 1080p/50Hz to 2160p/59.94, as I set my GUI. Maybe because of this delay I lose HDMI signal; If I (blindly) start video again, or turn on Split View on TV, HDMI signal from AM6B+ returns.

When was h264 codec introduced? And it’s still running strong  So worrying today when will h265 become obsolete and h266 will take over, is beyond my comprehension…

I answer here so people can see haha, h264 2004, h265 2013…

I use a 1.4s delay as someone adviced. And beside the HDMI cut problem, I do not have any lip sync issue, whatever the content. Everything is really smooth to be honest. The thing I use which can explain it is that I use a
PT-C-HDEARC-4K converter between the box and the TV, as my AVR doesn’t support eARC. I might try without it if needed

I had 1.6 seconds, reduced it today to 1 sec to se if it makes any difference. My box is directly connected to TV.

For those who are experiencing dropouts and have Plex, could try this.

Set to 0s switching delay, and in newest beta version of PM4K set the resume to start just a little before, maybe -1.5s. Should accomplish the same thing re: AVR/audio but hopefully stop the HDMI dropouts.

This is how Netflix official app on my LG TV resumes, about -1.5 to -2.0s.

But otherwise VVC is extremely desirable for those trying to maximize home NAS storage. Unlike AV1, the differences are very noticeable. Granted I’m like you so I’m not trying to do that but, re-encoding AVC to VVC is a very attractive generational skip akin to XviD to HEVC.

I can also see the decoding of VVC gaining attention for those recording OTA 4K T.V. such as sporting events. It’s probably more important for the TV caper’s than anyone right now.

well those who desire that sure, but I left the NAS storage (I ran 60TB+ unRAID server) for streaming with Plex and never looking back, so nice to have truly unlimited storage and not to be worried about crashing harddrives or paying for those plus the electrical bill compared to my now N100 mini PC that serves as my Plex server, sure you have some upside with local storage but for me it’s been fine without it.

Everyone is right here for itself mean whoever pay for is always right but … - and strictly factual- purchase these boxes today if you already have S905X3 or equivalent will not be an intelligent purchase without h266 and AV1 support this is why we must wait for S905X5 SoC box including for intelligent TV because they will be quickly obsolete but you know Everyone is prophet at home. Have good day

man you talk like these boxes costs a fortune, if you buy AM6B+ today you’ll easy get 5-10 years out off it or more, and still AV1 nor H266 won’t matter for Blu-ray remuxes, and you won’t get DV FEL on the S905X5 anyway.
