Best device for Coreelec in 2024

I really can’t understand why people are so cheap on devices to use on 1000’s dollars TVs.

How does that provide for unlimited storage, I don’t get it. Cloud providers don’t provide unlimited anymore.

For me the point is simply not going backwards with features. I’m fine with buying a new box with more performance. Not fine with buying a new box with more performance but less compatibility (ie. FEL).

S905X5-J will handle DV-FEL may be …10 years ? lol obsolete in less few months and you speak about Android9 box

What you are talking about?
First, it not exist.
What is exist bei sei, those low performance boxes.
Second, who care about android?
Third, looks like the amlogic will be never give, one newest dovi.ko with possible fel decoding.
The amb6 plus is a CoreElec player.
And very good.

I hope you all know Blu-ray become obsolete and this is the cause Dolby Laboratories do not advertise/support P7 FEL anymore?

The interesting thing is that AMlogic don’t advertise Fel but Fel movies are still being released.

What is blu-ray ? The new Amazon Apple Netflix standard ? lol

And yet vinyls (which I dislike) are released to this day.

HAHA OMG, I’m giving up.

Just another general warning. We don’t support piracy or banned addons/repos. All posts referencing banned addons ir illegal streaming services will be deleted without notice.
We can have our discussions freely without crossing that line.

The reason I have coreelec and the AM6B+ is so I can play full digital copies of 4k UHD and BluRay discs with no loss of quality. FEL support is the sole reason I’ve went down this route. FEL discs are still being released so I need this device. This is the one thing it does that no other device does.

I’m guessing your s905x3 can’t play Dolby Vision (DV)? I’m not talking about DV FEL, but ANY DV content? Any currently available DV licensed SOC would be a substantial upgrade considering how much of the HDR content out there is DV.

This is …
Hmmmmmm

I have Tanix Tx5 Plus Deluxe Amlogic S905X3
Is Excellent Box
Flawless even works on New Order 5.15. Kernel

However is only used in Bedroom

Useless on TCL DOLBY VISION Capatable TV

Or our Samsung,s with cpm Build

ITS 2024 come to the Dark Side
Lol

Happy Testing

Haha,S905X3-K can playback fel.But the SOC is rare.

But all should remember P7 only exist on Blu-ray media. So any other use is not legal. Blu-ray do implement a copy protection so any backup or rip of the data is not allowed.

For sure the damage is already done as the copy protection was cracked in past and the media found the way in the internet.

So I am sure this is also a reason why P7 FEL will never be supported on any platform in future.
It’s just not the real purpose.

And to be honest I doubt someone can tell you in real if it’s P7 MEL or FEL.

I guess. But so long as Ultra HD remains the highest quality format, I’m going to need a device that plays FEL even if it’s just to play older titles (quite a few of my favourite films are mastered with FEL). I guess my best bet might be to buy a spare AM6B+ and keep an archive copy of coreelec in case my current system goes down.

I’m sure I’m not alone. From various discussion boards I’m confident there are many home theatre enthusiasts who are using coreelec with an AM6B+ solely for this purpose. The only other real alternative is kaleidescape and I’d argue that even that doesn’t compete. I know you say you doubt people can tell the difference but I have a calibrated OLED and a decent proper Atmos setup and I’ve never seen my movies look and sound as good as they do with coreelec on the AM6B+ without shoving a disc in my player.

So for me, the answer to the topic question is simple. The AM6B+ is the best device for coreelec in 2024. Everything else available at the moment (and in the future by the sounds of it) is a significant step down.

While I prefer the quality of blu-ray media the players were cumbersome to use.Disc skipping, manually having to toggle options like DV, etc.The devices were so old and haven’t been updated in ages with no real good solution in sight.Haven’t checked out some options like a magnetar but that is way beyond my budget so having something that plays fel was essential to me.Sure I may not be able to see the difference unless I compared them side by side or had someone with a trained eye to point it out but haven’t AV enthusiasts always seeked accurate standards that have made ever so slight improvements/none just for the sake of accuracy.Coreelec on the DV fel capable devices was perfect in this aspect and preservation as well though that may be allowed, grey or illegal depending on the region.

I suspect that the unlocking of FEL playback has brought a lot of people to CoreElec that may not have been typical of its user base until that point. And may not be the target audience the developer has has in mind throughout coreelec’s development. I understand that I’ll probably need to remain on an older, no longer developed, version but that’s fine so long as it keeps working. I don’t really need new features and I’d actually rather that Kodi was stripped of most of its functionality as (again for my use solely) it’s pretty complex and seems a little bloated.

Regardless of what happens going forward. I’m very grateful for the coreelec team for giving us this moment!
