Best device for Coreelec in 2025 (and 2026)

CoreELEC Piers 22 is in alpha2 stage/phase.

Not SoC ,if the Device Tree Blob is in the CoreELEC Device Tree Folder, then it is supported.

That’s my understanding?

Agreed  Technically very nice and interesting but visually horrible with this cheap fake gold aspect which hurts the eyes :face_vomiting:

Yes saw that just now AliExp $90 au. Not bad price

I bought it here for $45 in August. If you wish, you can contact Steven Barry.
My friend and I bought the AM9 Pro, X96 M200, and X96 M300 from him.

You can bargain at Alibaba; it’s a wholesale market.

Lol

Non factor for my Living Room, never even think about the Gold , all I see is the front Display, thanks to Arthur Liberrman and openVFD,periodically check the Temp SoC during playback.

Happy Testing

ok, but here the S905X5(M) is solely listed for NO and by that only supported with CoreELEC Piers 22 which is in ALPHA - at least this is my interpretation - can anyone confirm?

You are correct.

Will not work with NG/NE Branch, no device tree blob/ no support for that SoC.

Of course they are EOL both Branch ,so Piers is the way to go.

CoreELEC is now Piers Alpha 3

For anyone valuing a cheap, firestick like gadget that runs NO (and NE) with WiFi working, I’ve got to say I’m pretty impressed with the Tanix TX9 stick. I’ve run ceemmc -x successfully to install to internal. It runs in S905Y4 so I can tell the difference in response times when compared to my Odroid N2+ and it has only HDMI, a wired connection for the IR receiver and USB connections but it runs CoreELEC very well. Supplied remote is OKish but custom remote.conf remotes work thro the wired IR receiver.

It’s best run with a dedicated power supply as booting can be odd (no sound, scrambled picture) when using a TV USB for power. That said, I use a USB switch in the power connection from the TV’s USB and wait for the TV to power up before starting the stick and have no problems.

The supplied remote can be improved to get numbers working by getting the Tanix remote.conf from CoreELEC’s remote control repository.

this device function with Coreelec NO Alpha - but it has some quirks with Coreelec yet; overall, the N2+ is the round device, and better audio, function well; but the SingleCore execution on S905X5(M) is nice, it can respond more quickly.

I’ve been looking for a stick device. This one looks interesting, but only 2G RAM. Is there a similar device with 4G? What limitations will I find from using Coreelec on 2G RAM? I’m mostly planning on it to play videos (up to 4k) and running a torrent client in the background, would that be possible?
