Are Tivo’s set-top boxes the same? I have a Tivo Stream 4K (S905Y2-J) and it can be booted using the s905y2_2g.dtb, but it can’t hardware decode videos. Do I need a specific dtb file to unlock the hardware decoder?
It looks like ST-DL P7 files were playing fine through Plex in Android itself back when it launched and it’s confirmed in this old community post: Dolby Vision FEL playback? | TiVo Community Forum
However, I’m not sure if this is still the case with the latest updates to this box. You can try digging deeper in that forum or maybe even try your luck by buying one.
Please tell me, is Ugoos AM6+ which has no “B”, any worse than AMB6+? Of course I mean how it works with CoreELEC and Dolby Vision, not the android part.
I am planning on getting the cheapest hardware I can find (second hand, in France) to run CE on. I tried to look on the forums but I couldn’t find exactly what I was looking for. Please redirect me if such a thread already exists.
These are the kind of files I’ll be playing :
4K HEVC 10bit HDR / DV (not playing on a DV compatible device, just tone-mapping)
1080 3D
5.1, atmos, DTS audio tracks
So my question is, what would be a good device for playing those files, for a decent price ?
I found an odroid-N2 (with emmc and psu) for 80€, seems reasonable to me. Wondering if this is fine, or maybe this board is lacking some features ?
So there is no way to take an already open and used Fire Cube Gen 2… and install Coreelec? Is that not possible? As far as I can tell it has to be a new/sealed one… which is a bummer since I have one laying around the house lol.
Not unless it’s been powered off for 2 years or you blocked updates a while back. The unlock to make booting CE possible is only possible up to firmware PS7292. The last batch of 2nd gen Cubes manufactured shipped with PS7229, that’s why any new one is sure to by unlockable.
I ordered the cheap TOX3 from Aliexpress and got it in 3 weeks (to South Africa). I replaced the firmware with Slimbox 34 ATV to prevent the ‘Missing partition super on eMMC!’ error and then was able to load CE from SD card.
If you don’t have a DV capable display, then I can easily recommend this box for CE use.
I think they’re suggesting that he may get a Dolby Vision TV in the future. I don’t think it’s a bad shout getting the Ugoos now if they think they might head that way.
